Get yourself a copy of Adrian Tempany's book 'And The Sun Shines Now..' deals with this topic.
 
Also worth a shout when it comes to football in the community - Michael Walker's(Irish Times,Guardian) new book Green Shoots will be looking at Irish football via Irish social history - out in Sept I believe.
