To all members,

As previously advised, the departure of our previous Chairperson, Siobhan O'Brien, to start a job with UEFA has opened up a position on the YBIG Mandate Committee.

As per our Constitution, members had 14 days to nominate potential candidates and two people have been proposed, Aidan Brett and Caroline Ginty and a link to an online ballot paper has been issued to all members. If you have signed up and did not receive a mail then please contact us as ybigmandate@gmail.com.

Details on both candidates can be viewed below.

****
Aidan Brett

My name is Aidan Brett and I've been a YBIG Mandate member since the group was founded in 2016. I've been a season ticket holder for well over a decade and travel regularly to away games.

Since the early years of YBIG, I have made myself available by helping to create the matchday atmosphere in Lansdowne. This involved fundraising, designing and organising the flags and banners on the day.

I also have the responsibility of being the fans team manager. Again, a lot of organising with other fans teams, tournaments, dragging a big bag of kit around Europe and charity fundraising is a part of this role.

Along with Liam Murray I help with designing and sourcing products for the YBIG shop.

If I am nominated to a position on the Mandate committee I am confident that I can bring some great ideas to the table that will benefit the group.

****

Caroline Ginty

My name is Caroline Ginty and I’m a long standing member of the YBIG Mandate, having joined in 2016.

I’m a season ticket holder for home games, have been travelling to away games for many years and I’m also a Longford Town fan.

As an avid follower of the Irish team home and away, this has led to having many connections with other fans so therefore I have a good knowledge of what supporters want while also giving female supporters a voice.

I am interested in finding out what issues supporters want addressed and improvements which can be made to issues that affect supporters within Irish football.

****

Once decided, you can vote for the candidate of your choice by clicking the ballot paper link in the mail and verify your vote by providing the email address that you signed up to the Mandate group with.

Voting is open until midnight Sunday February 20th and results will be announced the following week.

Thank you for your continued support.

YBIG Independent Supporters Mandate Committee

Many thanks to all who have voted so far.

Just bumping to say that voting will close at midnight on Sunday February 20th with results to be announced next week.

A reminder has been issued to members by email with a fresh link to vote.

To all members,

Many thanks to all who have voted in our committee election.

Having collated the ballots and cross-checked them against our members database, we can confirm that Caroline Ginty has been elected with 63% of the vote and wish her our congratulations on behalf of the membership.

The Mandate Committee would like to put on the record our appreciation to both Caroline and Aidan Brett for putting themselves forward and to all those who voted.

As a result, Caroline will now fill the open position on our overall committee and Aidan Brett will continue the excellent work he has been doing with the Fans Team sub-committee, which he will now chair, and with the flags and atmosphere sub-committee chaired by Peadar Conroy.

Speaking of the flags and atmosphere committee, there is a current fundraiser draw ongoing for the new international season with prizes of a 2022 season ticket, a YBIG shirt and a YBIG scarf up for grabs.

To enter, simply send €10 by PayPal to ybigflagsfund@gmail.com before 5pm on Thursday 3rd March. The draw will be made later that evening.

Finally, as part of a group that has previously sent representative fans teams to play at tournaments in Ukraine, our thoughts and support are with those we know over there and the broader Ukrainian population. YBIG Mandate welcomes the FAI decision announced today that no Irish team will play against Russia at any level until further notice.

Thank you for your continued support.

To all members,

The recent shocking events in Ukraine have had many football fans wondering just what they can do to help.

It has particularly resonated with the members of our YBIG Fans Team who travelled to Lviv in western Ukraine for the annual Eurofanz tournament between 2011 and 2019. The lads on the team, including our current char John O'Neill, forged many friendships with fellow players and supporters on those trips and were due to go there again in June for the Nations League game after Covid travel restriction had finally been lifted.

Obviously, this trip will not now happen and it's been a sobering experience for the team to see the friends they made now having to fight for their lives and their country.

To help the Ukrainians who are suffering we are hosting a Ireland v Ukraine Fans match on Friday March 25th at 7.30pm at Home Farm’s ground in Whitehall, Dublin 9. Capacity is 2,000 and you can also donate by buying a virtual ticket if you can't attend.

This match is being organised by You Boys in Green with our Irish Football Supporters Partnership colleagues from the Confederation of Republic of Ireland Supporters Clubs and Irish Supporters Network, along with Ukrainian Football Fans and Home Farm FC. The Football Association of Ireland have also given their help and support.

All proceeds from the sale of match tickets, which are €10 (attendees and virtual ticket purchases), will go to the Irish Red Cross Ukraine Appeal. Tickets are available at the below link.

We would like to give our heartfelt thanks to Future Ticketing, who have waived all fees for this fixture and to Home Farm FC for providing the venue free of charge.

Entertainment will be provided in the Home Farm bar at Whitehall after the match with folk and ballads group Catalpa topping the bill and their support is much appreciated.

It is hoped that we can have 2000 fans in attendance at this match with both Irish and Ukrainian supporters proudly wearing their green/white/orange and yellow/blue national colours.

The FAI have also given their backing to this initiative - https://www.fai.ie/ireland/news/fai-backs-fans-initiative-for-ukraine-fundraising

You can read more about the trips to Eurofanz and the charity work undertaken on those visits below and we hope that you can support a cause very close to our hearts.

Thank you for your continued support.

To all members,

We hope this post finds you well ahead of the upcoming fixtures with Scotland and Armenia.

Since first getting involved in the Governance Review Group process and the resulting formation of the Irish Football Supporters Partnership with CRISC and Independent Supporters Network we have lobbied for further recognition for supporters. One of the pillars of that lobbying was the installation of an independent Supporters Liaison Officer (SLO) for our National Teams and for the League of Ireland.

We had submitted details on how we envisaged this would work to the FAI back in 2019 and any of you who attended our Irish Football Supporters Forum at Lansdowne Road in November of that year may recall the IFSP presentation on it and the talk given by Swedish SLO Lena Gustafson Wiberg,

The lockdowns imposed due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent absence of fans from stadia put a pause on the process but we are delighted to announce that the specifications of the National Team SLO role have now been agreed with the FAI and an application process is open.

The purpose of the National Team Supporter Liaison Officer(s) is to build and maintain dialogue between supporters, the FAI, and all match night stakeholders. SLOs focus on enhancing co-operation, understanding and a sense of partnership and community between supporters and stakeholders, with the aim of creating the best possible match experience for supporters.

Appointed SLO(s) will be expected to act as an advocate for supporters in preparation for and during National Team match days and fixtures. They are active in the build-up to fixtures, working closely with the match management team, to ensure smooth preparations. They are also active in and around the stadium before and during the on-field action both to pre-empt and address any concerns that arise.

Support / Benefits
  • The NT SLO(s) will be reimbursed for any reasonable vouched expenses incurred while undertaking agreed tasks as part of role.
  • The NT SLO(s) will receive an FAI email, phone (for business use) and travel expenses to away matches in line with the SLO role requirements.
  • They will be part of planning meetings prior to competitive and friendly key international fixtures.
  • They will have access to and support from key personnel within the national association and supporter organisations.
  • They will receive access for all men’s NT games at the Aviva Stadium and other senior international games where needed in line with SLO role requirements
If any members are interested in applying for this position further details on the role and how to do so can be found by clicking on this link.

Please note that the closing date for applications is COB on Friday 23rd September 2022 and shortlisting will take place shortly afterwards.

Thank you for your continued support and safe travels to all heading for Glasgow.

It will be great to have an SLO who has the fans welfare and treatment at the top of his agenda as opposed to the current incumbent.

Hi all,

As you may have seen in the media recently, Ballybrack Seagulls Supporters Club have challenged the termination of a historic preferential ticketing arrangement by the FAI. The matter has been raised in the Dáil by Richard Boyd Barrett TD who has requested the Minister for Sport to intervene with the FAI to request continuation of this historic arrangement.

The mandate committee and others have worked hard to bring about equal and transparent ticketing policies. We endorse fully the current policy of fair and transparent allocation of tickets.

We believe it is important to make Boyd Barrett and the ministers concerned aware of this support and provide a little context of which they may be unaware.

Below is a prepared email that we suggest members send to Richard Boyd Barrett, TD, copying his assistant, the Minister of State for Sport and the Minister for Sport (note email addresses included below).

Please take two minutes to copy and forward.

The more emails sent, the more apparent it will be that a greater number of fans value fairness than historically tainted deals.

Thanks

YBIG Independent Supporters Mandate Committee

Subject:  FAI Equal Ticket Pricing and Allocation

Dear Richard,

I am contacting you following your statement to the Dáil requesting the Minister for Sport to intervene with the Football Association of Ireland regarding a preferential Season Ticket pricing arrangement with Ballybrack Seagulls Supporters Club (‘BSSC’).

BSSC had a historic arrangement with the FAI, entered into during the tenure of the previous CEO John Delaney, which offered tickets to this group at discounted rates of, most recently €235 for adults and €55 for children, and in an area of the stadium not offered to other fans. The price available to other fans, including long-standing Season Ticket holders, was €400 for a 2023 premium level (corners only) season ticket.

It is important to note that 2023 season tickets were made available by the FAI to all fans at equal pricing ranging from €115-€400 for renewals and from €150-€400 for new fans. Children’s tickets were also available to all at €55/€80 and family tickets at €360/€450 (2 adults and 2 children).

It is unfortunate that BSSC did not elect to avail of these tickets on behalf of its members and instead used their members to try to force the continuation of a preferential deal. The fact that BSSC’s committee finally advised their members of the discontinuation of the deal only after the Season Ticket general sale had closed is not right.

I and many other supporters have worked to reunite a support that had become severely fractured due to the preferential treatment some groups were receiving through what seemed to be their close relationship with the then CEO of the FAI. The leaders of some of these groups refused to engage in any consultation processes, lest they lose the benefits bestowed upon them by their patronage to the previous CEO.

To see one of these groups now lobby yourself, a TD who prides himself on promoting an equality platform, for preferential treatment under the new FAI regime is very disappointing.

I endorse the application of equal ticket pricing and allocation to all fans and ask that you seriously reconsider making any representations for preferential treatment on behalf of BSSC.

Regards,

To all members,

As per our constitution, an Annual General Meeting for members should be held each year.

This would normally happen in the last week of December but can be held up to three months into the following year under 'exceptional circumstances'.

Due to a combination of a number of the committee not standing for re-election, the impact of a December World Cup, plus various committee members' Christmas commitments, we were unable to schedule the meeting in December 2022, hence the delay.

A date and time of March 8th at 7pm has now been proposed and agreed. Please find an official notice with full details attached.

During 2022, the departure of committee member and previous Chairperson, Siobhan O'Brien, to start a job with UEFA, opened up a position on the YBIG Mandate Committee which was taken up by Caroline Ginty.

For the year ahead, a number of existing committee members are stepping down. Any other members of over six months' standing are entitled to stand for a committee position. It has always been the belief of the Mandate group that bringing new people on to the committee is essential to keep things fresh and this is now a great opportunity to do so.

A nomination form has been included with the AGM notice mailed to member. Should we receive more nominations than vacancies an election will be held at the AGM.

As such, if you wish to stand for election, please ensure that your completed nomination, including details of your nominator and seconder, are received by the Secretary at ybigmandate@gmail.com by 7pm on 1 March 2023.

A full agenda and Zoom details will be forwarded to members after that date.

Many thanks for your continued support,

YBIG Independent Supporters Mandate Committee

We have received a very positive reaction to our mandate and it is clear that there are many people who agree that independent fans need a strong voice to air concerns Irish supporters have going forward.

If you haven't already signed up, please do so here

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1OzJcEbCVECpwhCIT6UY2qc_MG8_1hvWLq9t6-SpL8E8/viewform

The FAI had promised to introduce a new ticketing scheme called Fans Direct. So far, the Association has not delivered any clarity on the scheme and there seems to have been no progress on the points system which was supposed to be implemented before Ireland's play-off clash with Bosnia last year.

It is also quite clear that the only people who will be judged on their previous attendances at Ireland matches are independent fans as the points system will not be introduced for FAI affiliated Supporters Clubs. However, we do understand that many clubs have their own loyalty system in place and this must be welcomed.

We feel that every fan should be treated equally, be they independent fans or in Supporters Clubs.

The FAI says that 30 per cent of tickets for World Cup qualifiers will be allocated to Ireland fans. This number needs to be revised urgently.

We are also seeking nominations for people to form a working group and who can speak on behalf of YBIG.

If you have any nominations or if you want to put your own name forward, please post in this thread. Thumbs Up

Why does the Forum allow posts re spare tickets? Does that undermine the whole YBIG Mandate? Anyone with spare tickets should inform the TO so those next in line can avail of them.
