Anyone got any stories about his short time there? From what I know Massimo Moratti signed him when Lippi was coach then he got fired and Tardelli got rid of him. Anyone any stoories from his time there?

Here's footage of a peach of a lob over the great Angelo Peruzzi he scored in the Italian Super cup game (which is a pretty big game over there). http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xfa0ae_gol-robbie-keane-vs-lazio-supercopp_sport
Might have been interesting had he stayed over there longer. Might have inspired more young Irish lads to do the same. Would be nice to see some of our lads trying it in other countries and experiencing the game from a new perspective.

Well tbh the reason Irish lads dont play in continental europe is because they are not good enough and no one wants them. Foreign clubs dont scout here because we produce poor players. Its not as if our lads can choose to go to Italy. We produce the type of poor players that are ten a penny in the championship and lower leagues. Robbie was class in them days and he was good enough and thats why he got noticed. If we produce a top player theres a chance a continental club will want to sign them. Coleman has an outside chance although personally cant see him moving away from england.
Good goal from Keane btw. Edited by Trap junior - 24 Aug 2014 at 7:55pm |

Disagree that we don't produce talented players, there is no reason for Italian teams to scout over here because they are surronded by many other countries,so why would they bother coming over here? Thats like saying league of Ireland Scouts should go over to Albania or Estonia looking for players. Its up to the Irish players to try and move to the continent themselves.

In fairness there is a huge difference between the Italian league and the LOI,

If Robbie was good enough he would have made it, I think it was for the same reason he didn't make it at Leeds & Liverpool.

I remember him playing in a pre-season game which went to a 'shoot-out', ice hockey style where you run with the ball from the half way line and have 10 seconds to score. He missed but was allowed retake for some reason and missed again!

I remember that as well I think the fact that there's a struggle to find any of the goals he scored says a lot about his brief time there. |

Totally disagree. Surely it's more a case of continental clubs casting their scouting networks wider now than before(probably following the British model). This island has produced some of the best players in the world at their times, just not nearly enough of them unfortunately. Also what about the young lads at the moment that were snapped up by Barcelona and Real Madrid over the past two years or so? Can't remember their names but there are threads on them here. Anyway, good thread this

"At that time at Inter, they had a policy of going for young players and Robbie Keane was the best one that I saw." Marcello Lippi.
Inter had ridiculously good options up front at that time;Ronaldo,Recoba and Vieri so even if Lippi had stayed he may still have struggled to get regular games.
