I have wondered if it is entirely down to a fear of being beaten which has scuppered Boro this season?
They had in charge an extremely conservative manager who fell over the promotion line with them last year, only beating Brighton on goal difference despite being the lowest scorers in the top 6. He was backed financially too, spending around 16-17 million on strikers alone, which I imagine why there was the disagreement in March as the team looked destined to miss out on the automatic places.
I think he was shown a lot of patience by Gibson as it seems they have continued to struggle for goals.

I think most Club's would be reticent to change managers at this point in the season, however, I actually think that Boro have the team, on paper to save themselves. A conservative manager just won't cut it anymore, especially as the have not really been scoring goals this season.
