Lads, I've done a bit of an exercise here looking back at the first FULL attempt (so I'm not counting Kerr taking command when McCarthy went after the 1st two games of Euro 2004*) at qualification of Stan, Kerr, McCarthy and Charlton, taking the first 9 games (cos Stan's only had 9) or in Charlton's case, 8 games cos there was only 5 teams in the group.
Some interesting conclusions to digest.
1. Charlton qualified first attempt, McCarthy got to a play off (with a very young squad after Charlton's heroes retired), Kerr made it to the last game with the Swiss, Stan's effort is all but out with 3 games to go.
2. Clean sheets: Jack 5/8, Mick 5/9, Kerr 5/9, Stan 3/9
3. Records (W‑D-L), Jack 4‑3‑1, Mick 5‑2‑2, Kerr 4‑4‑1, Stan 4‑2‑3
4. Goals scored: Jack 10, Mick 21, Kerr 12, Stan 14
5. Goals conceded: Jack 5, Mick 7, Kerr 5, Stan 10
6. Best unbeaten run: Kerr 7 (Stan 6)
7. Worst run with no win: Mick and Stan 3 each
*Kerr's 6 games after taking over from McCarthy were
W, W, D, W, D, L (that last game was losing to the Swiss putting us out of the play‑off spot, but at least he got to the last game).
Is this what you call progress? The other Managers certainly managed it in my opinion (Jack qualified, McCarthy got to play‑off after Jack missed out on Euro 96, Kerr got us to the last game of WC2006 (and nearly rescued qualification for Euro 2004 without His Highness), Stan's had 9 games and we're all but out and may finish 4th...........I rest my case again Delaney.
