I'd imagine players that are on their club teams would prefer to stay and help their club out first and foremost. Was chatting to Raymond Foy before the last one and he turned down the call as he wanted to stay and help Harps to promotion

A lot of first teamers so fair play to Player and Club for choosing the representative side over club (age old discussion).

Once again the Coll & Uni. side present huge number of Domestic first team players in an All-Ireland representative side. Perception of gender equality for both squads. Prestige of Senior Womens International Manager Colin Bell also Coll & Uni Manger (like Sue Ronan before him).

For Football Fans in Ireland who want a Domestic Player dominated All-Ireland representative team with added Inclusion, there's both your teams.

In Ireland the talent gap between best of Students and best Players domestically isn't very wide, we can have a discussion about the Colleges & University side representing domestic Irish Football.  With a large Student population at Football-going age.
In other places that influence Irish Football the talent gap is a lot wider and so because the discussion doesn't take place in these other places it doesn't influence some football fans in Ireland.  But Ireland has this narrow talent gap between best of Student and best of Domestic player and it's possible for Irish Football Fans to have a discussion about the Coll & Uni side representing Domestic Football.

Pennsylvania born Shane Patrick Ryan (Swimming), Penn State finished 4th in 100m backstroke and won Gold this evening in 50m Backstroke.

He also is down for 4x100m Freestyle medley and 4x100m medley (I don't know his choice of music for those races).

Womens Football after losing 1-0 to Canada, the result mexico v Canada ddn't go Ireland's way and they compete in the 9th-12th ranking matches. Because of 13 entries in Womens, Ireland are now scheduled for 2 more matches.

Next Match: Sat Aug 26th Chinese Taipei v Ireland, Hsinchu City (ko 16:00, Irish time 09:30am)

Mens Football
UCD AFC Greg Sloggett joined the squad at the weekend, along with Daire O'Connor and Jay McClelland, Sloggett was one of three UCD AFC starters that beat Chines Taipei 2-1 in front of an enthusiastic home crowd. After Chinese Taipei went ahead from Chein Hsun Lin, Ireland scored the equaliser from Alan O'Sullivan and a late injury time winner from Joe Doyle.

It wasn't enough for the quarters but IRL will still have three games in the ranking 9th-16th.
