But why do the players just wear ankle socks in training games? Seen Jonny Walters get a slight kick in the ankle today during a practice match that would have been avoided if they were wearing shinguards with them ankle cushions.  Seems bizarre to me to play a 11 v11 without protective gear.

Stan Collymore used toCool

Anyway my point still stands. They were wearing them sports socks that just go above the ankle. No shinguards. A small kick in the shin would put you out of the match.

It's far more comfortable to wear just ankle socks, or football socks with no shinguards! Always train that way myself, even though i have a metal rod in my left leg from breaking it!

I'd say they don't wear them because they think it makes them look tough.

Can never understand why more players don't wear them in hurling.

Another question: what would be the better outcome - 2 draws next week or a loss in Sweden coupled with a win on Tuesday?
