He was getting loads of praise for his pieces in the Times (could be getting the paper wrong) but it’s one thing writing about tactics and then actually being able to put them into practice.

These “Golden Generation” managers don’t really spend enough time as coaches learning their trade. I know Gerrard did a couple of years at the 18’s at Liverpool but they just seem to dive straight into a managers job rather than spending as assistant coach learning. Maybe it’s ego but they seem to want to be the main man straight away.

Rooney’s been more or less in a footballing environment since 2002. He had 4 days off between leaving DC United and taking the Birmingham job. Had 3 weeks off between Derby and DC United. It’s impossible to learn new ideas when you’re constantly either playing, player/manager or managing.

Coaches benefit massively from visiting other clubs/countries and managers and being able to watch their sessions but you can’t do this when your constantly involved with a team.

Good luck to him.

Leeds v Leicester next Friday is now massive after Leicester lost today , the chasing pack had resigned themselves to Leicester winning the league, Leeds win and it's only a 6 point gap,  it's gonna be some run in whatever happens

Quite alot riding on this game and how their season could end, Soton and Ipswich both play 2 homes this week you'd expect them to win ...Leeds win could see just 6 pts between top 4 (Soton 5 off them) ...after looking a formality right at the top for so long

Sounds like Gary Rowett is going to be appointed interim manager at Birmingham with the situation with Tony Mowbrays health.
