Keane's like the Father Jack of Irish football. Very irritable around strangers. And people he knew.

Having had personal experience of this situation I can explode this myth.

He is as dull as ditchwater, sh*te company and you'd get more craic out of a heavily sedated hedgehog.

Total Gimp!

So you enjoyed your prize of watching one of the games with McAteer in the Premium section I see....

I've met him a number of times over the last 17 years or so and always found it to be true. Been a while though, maybe he's changed.

Or maybe it's just you.

Wouldnt say Hate him BP, but he was being "sponsored" for that prize and made absolutely no attempt to interact with us.

Any attempts we made to chat to him were met with one word answers usually while he tried to text on his phone, we were supposed to have drinks with him at half time and after the game and he left his seat 10 mins before the end of the first half to go and have a drink with two models who he spent the entire game trying to teach the offside rule to and explain to them why there were corner kicks.

Same craic after the match, spent the whole time tryin to get into their knickers to no avail.
The lads from the sponsors who were lookin after him apologised to us two or three times for his "being preoccupied with the models" and for not even talking to us.

We had tickets to the players lounge after the game and just left him still tryin to get off with Model B as Model A had shown zero interest in him.

Now lads might say fair enough with his antics , but he was on a paid gig and I would have rather watched the game in my regular seats and had a few drinks with mates than feel like a hindrance to Don Juan de McAteer's failed model mission.

Thankfully, True Legends Ronnie Whelan and Ray Houghton were much more friendly and chatty in the Berkeley Court afterwards while Trigger was STILL (I sh*t you not) trying to get away with Model B. He failed miserably there too.

Well why did you say "He comes across as someone you could have a beer with and who'd be a bit of craic"? You either met him in this situation or you didnt? your post suggests its only specualtion on your part.

As for "maybe it's just you". I'm heartbroken by that jibe Wink
The fact is, he didnt win the prize to go to the game with me! I and my two guests made much more of an effort with him than he did with us.

No offence meant mate, was just being a bit facetious.

I met him a number of times out and about socially and the odd Q&A years back from 95 through to Japan where his family were also out regularly and found him dead on. Can't comment on how he may have behaved on that particular night and it sounds out of order but the few times I bumped into him he was sound and listening to his interviews etc he doesn't seem to have changed.

Jason McAteer on some new RTE "comedy" show last night "Clear History"...

Segment where you have Joanne McNally, Baz Ashawy, Jason Byrne speaking about Ireland's love of a good referendum.

McAteer sat there like this Confused

Then for laughs, says the only vote he ever participated in was the team vote on Roy being welcomed back to the world cup. Yawnn........

It’s a poor show, when I saw he was on it I switched straight off.
