Topic: PROTESTS & DEMOS 2002 Posted: 16 Feb 2007 at 5:26am |
Tricolour hearse driven from Dundalk to FAI HQ at Merrion Square, Dublin; Cork city protest marches; Builders downing tools in Galway ... I am currently researching a television doc on how ordinary people went to extreme lengths to vent their anger and frustration at Roy Keane's sending home/omission from Ireland's 2002 World Cup.
We need to hear stories of extraordinary public displays of emotion - protests, demos, boycotts, petitions - as a result of the Keane fiasco of May 2002 from all over the country.
If you think you could help me in anyway, please don't hesitate to contact me. If you remember any protests/demos etc or were involved in them, please get in touch! If the story is strong enough, it could end up on television!

I think you'll find it was an FAI/McCarthy fiasco rather than a Keane fiasco.

The doc will be going out on Setanta Ireland. You got any stories of protests or punch ups or humorous tales from the time?

He is the self claimed head of the Irish Soccer Supporters.
Basically, he claims to run a supporters club but i don't think anyone is a member of this 'club'.
From what I hear Alan Hunter isn't even his real name.
The fella is delusional and should not be listened to

I've seen Alan Hunter quoted as the head or general secretary of the Irish Football Supporters Association in newspaper articles etc.
But i don't think this association actually exists...
