Coogan took 6 months to decide whether to take the role and he made a great point in a recent interview that the BBC are damned if they do and damned if they don't when it comes to making a drama about Savile. 

The fact it was written in close consultation with some of Savile's abuse victims and one of them was an advisor on set justifies the drama being produced imo.
