They have a really good chance as there is no standout team.
It’s a really open WC in my opinion.

Apart from Messi and Neymar, the South American teams are very average. They're a bit off the European teams IMO

Brazilian health service specifically name Reino Unido in their guidance but don’t let that get in the way of you doing whatever it is you think you’re doing..

I’ll take a guess that your Portuguese isn’t up to scratch, that means UK. If it were just England it would have been Inglaterra.

From the looks of the squads, Brazil brought none of their UK-based players back (Richarlison, Ederson etc), so I'm guessing this was well flagged in advance.

The only weird thing is that they didn't stop them when entering the stadium or during warmups rather than waiting for kickoff

Saw some one Twitter say that the health officials informed the teams of it 3 hours before the game but the Argentines ignored the advice, with the backing of the CBF. Which is probably why the police were involved.

Argentina were in Brazil since Friday and this was being flagged as a problem since then.

There is some confusion as Argentina are saying they believed that the same rules that were there for Copa America and the summer qualifiers still applied - i.e. players/staff for games were exempt from quarantine (it's not clear if this is really a credible argument but it's what they're saying).
The 4 players based in England did however lie on their entry forms by not declaring they had been in the UK in the previous 14 days (had they done so it would have been either quarantine for 14 days or return to point of origin).

So the Argentinians were wrong to try and enter that way, but the Brazilians were wrong to let them hang around for 3 days without doing anything about it and then only deciding to act 10 minutes into the first half of the game.

There also seems to be a lot of inconsistency in how this particular rule has been enforced previously by the Brazilian health service so it seems a bit like they saw an opportunity to make a bit of a show and took it.

A fun one for FIFA to pick the bones out of.. most likely outcome is a replay, but they could easily decide that one or the other association is at fault and award 3-0 to one or other team.. just one more farcical day in the history of South American football!!

Sounds fiesty.

The red mist descended during Argentina’s Trophy of Champions final as TEN players were sent off during Boca Juniors’ defeat to Racing.

Referee Facundo Tello, who is set to take charge of several games during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar this month, was a busy man as tempers boiled over during a fiery encounter which saw Racing run out 2-1 victors after extra time. The carnage began just a few minutes before the end of normal time when Sebastian Villa of Boca and Racing’s Johan Carbonero were given their marching orders.
