He has us so well drilled. Every player knows exactly what they should be doing and we are very compact. Like the last 2 seasons, we're slow to get going when we have possession but that has improved as the season went on both times. The big difference this season is we're getting points on the board whereas we were drawing/losing these games in previous years.

I'll lap this up while it lasts. So many years in the wilderness of the 1st division playing in front of small crowds. It's just great to have a squad of players there who completely buy in to what the manager wants, no journeymen or bad apples from what I can see. Great start to the season

Joey O'Brien has a big impact on sorting out the defence. Are a very difficult team to peg back when they get a lead in match. Getting excellent crowds too...where did they come from ?

There has always been a hardcore base of fans there. Averages have been 600-1k in the 1st division throughout the bleak years (with close to zero away fans for a lot of games coming to Tolka). Then in 2019 the new owners came in and completely revamped everything. Young manager (Ian Morris) and young CEO (Dave O'Connor) brought in, and the club massively improved their social media presence, presence in the local community, affiliate links with local clubs, good sponsorships and partnerships etc. That brought through more crowds, along with winning the 1st division.

Then post COVID it has exploded (like it has for lots of other clubs). Getting back in to the Premier has massively boosted the clubs profile, added to that the Cup final 2 years ago, Duffer at the helm drawing attention from the public, getting in to Europe etc. I read somewhere that we've close to 2k season ticket holders now which is fantastic

They've capitalised from the huge surge in interest from people in the LOI in general, and with the Duff factor as well, plus improved performances, the Save Tolka Park campaign etc it has been the perfect storm really. It's great to see and long may it continue. In all my years going to Shels this is by far the best feeling around the club I've noticed. Back in the early 2000's with the success in Europe, league wins etc, you could just sense the bubble was going to burst at some stage, and hopefully that's not the case anymore

Eye seen that. Always liked the look of Moylan. Hopefully he can keep that form going now. Maybe Lincoln can sneak into the playoffs.

Well said Damien

Damien Duff said he was “embarrassed” and “ashamed” after his side’s Premier Division game with Drogheda United was stopped for close to 15 minutes after a linesman was struck by an object thrown by a Shelbourne supporter.

‘One person has embarrassed the whole club tonight,’ says Damien Duff after linesman struck by smoke bomb

Damien Duff said he was “embarrassed” and “ashamed” after his side’s Premier Division game with Drogheda United was stopped for close to 15 minutes after a linesman was struck by an object thrown by a Shelbourne supporter.

Play was halted at Weaver’s Park with one minute of injury-time remaining as assistant ref Dermot Broughton sought medical attention after being struck on the back of the neck by a smoke bomb that was thrown from the away section.

It came as the league leaders chased a winner after Seán Boyd’s 94th-minute leveller, with ref Rob Hennessy opting against playing an advantage when a Shels player was fouled at the edge of the box

That drew an angry response from the Dubliners, but it spilled over when Broughton came onto the pitch to inform Hennessy that he was struggling. The players were taken off with a grey area over whether play might resume, but they eventually returned to see out the remaining minute or so.

But Shels are now likely to face a strong sanction and Duff said he could not excuse what had unfolded.

Attempts were being made to identify the culprit in the aftermath – with sections of Shels supporters trying to assist in that – but no arrests were made at the ground.

A lot have hotels and trains booked (myself included). I'm sure people will weigh it up and see if it's worth it. Personally I'm not a huge fan of sitting in the home end and having to sit quietly if we score etc.

On the ban itself it's the best outcome we could have hoped for really considering the Bohs punishment earlier this season. Hopefully this brings an end to this crap every few weeks but I have a feeling this will keep happening across the country until something serious is done (points deduction, home games behind closed doors etc)

I imagine many fans will just go in the home end and gathering together and make an unofficial away end.

This just punishes the home side.

Away ban and a fine equivalent of estimated away ticket sales going directly to host club.

Crazy stuff

Galway should be able to sell the tickets on have they not been sold out this season ?

Close but not totally. Shams and Bohs games had great crowds but don't think they were sold out
