Actually played really well against Germany and Kazakhstan. Showed in those two games that he should've been capped a lot more. Way more to offer than some lads who got capped around then [Sammon, Cox].

Cox had a bit more about him than Sammon and I think Trap played him out of position on the wing
afaik.
Stokes had more natural ability than both of them in the very rare glimpses he showed. I do remember him with a clever bit of play for Celtic against a Kazakh side in the CL playoffs years ago. Wasn't Stokes supposed to be decent enough at youth level for Arsenal? I might have that wrong tbh. |

He had a great game for Hibs in their cup win over Rangers, scored 2, could of had 5, the winner came from a corner he forced. He'll always be a hero in Leith. Should have achieved more in his career.

Did well in Scotland for Falkirk originally before the glory days at Celtic and Hibs. Never going to get a chance at Arsenal under Wenger and didn’t do much at Sunderland when he got his PL break there under Roy Keane nor did he take the chances he got at international level. Bit of a spoiled brat and bad character. Who knows what he might have achieved if he’d had the dedication and discipline of James McClean or Seamus Coleman.

Was at 2013 Scottish Cup final when Celtic beat Hibs 3-0, he was brilliant that day. Deservedly named MoM.

Stokes was one of those that had all the talent in the world but appeared to put minimal effort in. There were issues with him from the start at Sunderland and later at Celtic and hibs . I genuinely believe he could have been an excellent player for us if he had put the effort in with his lifestyle and training . I met him in copper face jacks after he had pulled out of an Irish squad - think it was that home nations tournament and he was on the piss. Asked him why he wasn’t playing and he said he was busy and had wanted to go on the piss with his mates so couldn’t be in the squad . Went on to sl*g off Daryl Murphy .
