Joe Shaughnessy is making his debut for Aberdeen this afternoon. The Centre half is very highly rated by Aberdeen. Best of luck to him.

His brother is on the Irish U16/15 team. Two good prospects. |

Best of luck to Joe. He never really got a chance at Aberdeen in his own position. He was played at full back and give him his due he never tried to hide but he is a central defender.

I was actually looking for this thread earlier after the talk of his brother Conor. I've not been following St Johnstone closely, but a Scottish friend of mine is a massive fan so I always ask to see how Joe is getting on. He seems to start all their games in defence for the last two years (100 appearances, 5 goals) and is one of their better players. Since he joined St Johnstone they finished 4th in both seasons and are currently 4th this season. The two seasons before he joined they finished 6th (bearing in mind there's only 12 teams in the SPL)

Was he? Fair play to him! Tbh, I'm surprised he doesn't get mentioned on here more often. I know the SPL is not highly regarded to a lot of people on here, but I constantly hear about all these Irish and English (eligible) young (some not so young) lads that are trying to break into League 2 and League 1 teams and people are fawning over them. Whereas here was have someone like Joe who is making SPL team of the year and plays in every game for his club and even scores in Europa league qualifiers, and nobody mentions him.

He only signed a two year deal with St Johnston i believe, so he could well end up in the Championship next season.
The SPL isn't a fair gauge of a player, particularly at St Johnston. Look at Johnny Hayes, he's dreadful. But at Aberdeen he was the Irish Messi.

Sounds like Joe could be on the move in the Summer as he is refusing to sign a new contract for St. Johnstone.

His former club Aberdeen reportedly offered him a pre-contract deal in January. Until about a month ago that deal was still on the table but they got frustrated with his reluctance to sign and withdrew it.

Just seen he's on the bench today, which is unusual. That likely because of the contract talks/issues?
