   Anybody see Match of the Day last night when they did a little Bio on Austria's greatest ever footballer, Matthias Sindelar?
Really interesting story about this lad and how he refused to play for Germany during Hitlers reign. 
The Nazis then set up a match between Germany and Austria and gave the Austrians instruction to lose but the Austrians won with Sindelar scoring one and setting up the other.
He was found dead a year later at the age of 36. The bastids poisoned him with carbon monoxide..

	Really interesting piece McG! I was doing a lot of research about this time for the book and came across some interesting stories some of which were true and some not. A German press photographer tried to get the crowd at Dalymount to give the nazi salute in 1936 but he got a different one. Then there was the story about the German manager at the time Dr. Nerz who apparently was Jewish and was gassed at Auswitch. Far from true as he was a member of the Nazi party (as was nearly everyone in Germany at the time) and was shot by Russians in a Gulag after the war. Hard to verify but the Sindelar story is true. Good work.
	There are friendlier places to drink.
