Just read that joe Lapira is going to have trials with Aberdeen in August. He doesnt graduate from college till next year so wont be signing even if offered a contract it seems.

He'll get some stick over that mullet up in Scotland, but joking aside it'll be interesting to see if he catches the eye, even if he can't sign, which I must say is a bit odd.........howandever.

He won best player for his college league i think. Regardless of that, it still annoys me that stan left out some young IRISH Championship lads to put this "nobody" in the team. Joe Lapira is hardly the future of Irish football but young lads who are already playing regular first team football for the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Ipswich, Leicster City ect may just be.....these are the type of lads that should have been given the opportunity to gain the experience at international level

he won this some decent enough players got it down the years.
I'm not saying he is better than lads who could have been capped but he is clearly far from useless

Just saw that Tony Meola the ex USA goalkeeper won this back in '89.
Another legend of the game there Roger!

Without hammering him too much, winning a US College player award is tantamount to a UCL Saturday Div 3 player getting capped in my opinion.  For my money, Lapira got the nod to get extra bums on seats in those 2 games.  It didn't work either.  As Monster says, others shoulda been given first refusal, what of Mick Doyle of Coventry, or even Colin Healy even though he can't competitively play till July, for God's sake, Healy was ready to come in for His Highness during War in Saipan.  Lapira's selection was ridiculous, plain and simple.

meola was class , i remember him well , looked like an american footballer if ever i saw one . lads i'm not saying lapira should have been capped , i am saying he's not a bad player and i wish him well in scotland , if he does as well as reyna then he'll be alright.

if the only gripe we have against stan when he eventually resigns is that he capped lapira i will be one happy man.
