Rafa reckons he listened to Birminghams offer for Babel, who has given f**k all to Liverpool, and obviously isnt in Benitez first 11. The offer was around 8/9 mill.
' Ryan has told us he wants to stay and fight for his place, so a move is over' says Rafa.

Ill take ya back to Steve Finnan
His average rating in a Liverpool shirt on Sky Sports ratings(from the fans) was between 7 and 8 in his performances for LFC.
He was at a club who had been it 2 Champ League finals, and with Torres, new Stadium and promised Yank millions, and a League chase promised, there was no way he wanted to ply his trade anywhere else. Who would?

Rafa wanted Barry from Villa.  Martin O Neill, wasnt gonna be pushed around, and the Stubburn Derry man didnt accept it. He wasnt letting Barry go without big ridiculous money AND proven premiership quality fullback Steve Finnan.
Finnan told Benitez as Babel has 'he wants to stay and fight for his place'
Why wouldnt he when he was the best fullback at the club?
Thus, the Barry transfer took on an even deeper sub plot. Barry stays at Villa, after too much waiting,
Benitez tells Finnan he is no longer wanted. Sells him . Finnan goes for a holiday in Spain.
Leaving new signing  mill Dossena, Degen, Arelio and Arbeloa for about 20 mill.

well Rafa got back half of Dossenas fee today.

But fumble in a greasy till

And add the halfpence to the pence

And pray to shivering prayer, until

You have dried the marrow from the bone.

Finnan's last season he didn't play much and when he did he actually was making mistakes. Rafa's replacements have not been as good as Finnan when Finnan was on top of his game but the choice to sell him was still the right one as he was out for 2 years practically
