Topic: Celtic hype Posted: 21 Dec 2007 at 5:40am |
Noticed a decent post.
All the hype about former Celtic players Miller, McGeady, Healy when they were there, but let's see them actually play well for Ireland in more than a once-off.

The sequence now is, should he miss this, and Ireland's next penalty is scored, then the match and the progress are Ireland's....Timofte against Bonner..

It's been the same for years with young Celtic players, and not just the Irish ones .. they show great potential, then move to a "bigger" English club and disappear ... Simon Donnelly being a prime example.

Miller shoulda gone on to better things. O'Neill told him to wait but he was stupid to go to United when he hadn't a hope of breaking through. Healy was unlucky and probably had to move cos he wasn't getting in regular at Celtic and then of course he got injured, but Miller was in the first team and shoulda got more CL experience, he mighta got a better move then than rotting in United's reserves. McGeady has a chance now, there's no question about that, he'll come good in an Irish shirt eventually, I'd be confident of that.

there wasnt much hype about colin healy , he did very little in the hoops , maloney would be another to add to the list , these fellas should have stayed put a few more years. as for playing well for ireland mcgeady is young and wil deffo do the business in future.

Its a fair point but players dont hype themselves up remember. The thing people dont seem to realise is that neither Healy nor Miller did that well at Celtic. Miller was very incosistent and struggled to even hold down a regular place. He had a couple of good games in Champs league, one especially against Anderlecht in 2003 when Alex Ferguson was there and then he was off to United. Healy was similar struggled to make it into first team and when he did, didnt do alot. However I do think both are descent players who havent really fulfilled potential. Mcgeady I think could be big player for ireland in future, has put some excellent champs league performances in for Celtic, but has defo been below par for Ireland in the last year but again so have alot of other players.

It's not the media hyping them up it's the bloody players, Donnatti was saying to McGeady about following in the footsteps of Kaka and pickng up the world player award in his career..then you have Boruc saying he's nearly as good as Ronaldo....

Hay, I remember great things were expected from Aberdeen's O'Leary. Now where the hell is he? Who the hell is is? And why did I start this reply anyway?
