Topic: Ireland vs Slovakia Posted: 28 Mar 2007 at 4:07pm |
Quality game. the lads were well up for it tonight. The difference was that they challenged for everything. First to balls that were only 25% theirs and this is why they dominated the first halve. Second havle the slovakians got into it more and had a fdew chances but ll in all a millions times better than the crap on saturday and against a much better team. Well impressed with Duff and Dunne. McShane solid again and though Carlsey and kilbane did a job. Long had a few chances when he came on but did well and worked hard as did our new flashy winger hunt. McGeady had spells as did Ireland. Doyle was very good and showed how a one man up front is meant to be played. Given as ever did his exepected great job. Finnan solid and O'Sheas game was the best I've seen him in an Ireland shirt in a few years and he was mediocre. good result that keeps the championship qualifying dream alive. Jammy gits the czechs earlier on in the night. Ah well good man Stan at least you picked a good team and formation tonight, lets keep it goin

Not a brillian t performance but we got the three points. So at least for the next 6 months we can still dream of having a slight chance of qualifying.
It's a pity more of the Ireland team don't play for Reading, whatever steve coppell does Stan would do well to copy. They play simply and direct and give it there all....why can't the rest of the players follow suit? Like Duff, always failing to deliver when it matters, falling over at the slightest touch..sad to see

Have to give credit to Duff last night. Had a great first half and wasnt too bad in the second half. Every time he got the ball he took on a player (even if he did lose it a few times) at least it was positive exiting football from both wingers and Hunt when he came on.

Fine. It was better than sat and all the other poor performances.
Still think staunton should have his own muppet show.
4-5-1 at home in front of 75,000 against a very average side. The guy has no balls. The one up front was clearly not working in the second half and we were as usual dropping deeper and deeper. Slovakia were there for the taking. We should have pushed on when we had the advantage. Instead we prayed they would'nt do what san marino did. They nearly did !!

i think we are just painting over the cracks, the performance was improved on saturdays but slovakians are no great shakes, and i thought we were hanging on for the win in the second half.

very negative attitude shakira. thats fair enough that it could have happened but it didnt! We can all do if and buts..
agree with you that we should have taken chance but at least the job is done now and the last month can fade into memory!

Not good enough count. If you play like that and say it's alright then it becomes ok to sit back on a one nil lead at home against an average team. Then when concede a late goal we will only have ourselves to blame...............and Staunton .................and ian Harte.
Not like we hav'nt conceded a sucker goal before !!
It's about having the right attitude. Trying to win every game and not being afraid of anyone. The crime is not losing...it's not having enough ambition.

straight from the Roy Keane handbook shakira. Fair enough, problem is we're not world beaters and they showed some heart last night and won the game

Unfortunately from where I was sitting (right behind the goal) I didn't have an amazing view of the full pitch but even still I wasn't overly impressed with the entire performance. Duff was amazing in the first half, every time the ball came to him you felt that something might happen. The rest of play was a bit unstructured, they were fighting and winning the ball but then just booting it forward without putting too much thought into it.
We did win, but 1 - Nil is hardly a convincing score especially considering the lack of proper goal attempts that were created. The Slovaks had a couple of great chances at the end and if one of them had of gone in it'd hardly have been against the run of play...
