he did it against holland in 2001 as well, let's be honest holland were all over us and had about 30 chances to score and he was still saying it's the best performance we've ever had. the only thing good about it I remember was that we were down to 10 men and managed to win, but at least say it like it is george instead of sugar coating it!

He should retire. His commentary has been flat in recent years. But he is one of the greatest to evert do it. Peter Drury is a smart replacement by Sky. Andy Gray and Martin Tyler were the dream team. He loves his job. He will probably die while commentating.

He still does most the WNT games, was on the other night for the Zambia game and will prob be on for the France game Thursday. Would still prefer him to do the mens games over poxy Darragh Maloney.

I reckon George might stay on until the Olympics next summer, so i don't think this will be the end, but its very fitting that he was there all the way through the glory years with the men and will be on the mic tomorrow
