no idea if this will happen or not, guess it might depend on if hasenhuttl gets sacked, but from our perspective would be a pretty significant downturn to go from travers and bazunu starting for their clubs start of season + kelleher injured, to both of the former being dropped + kelleher still injured (and still no2 at liverpool)

Kelleher came back from injury and played for lfc u21s in a 1-1 draw with arsenal at the weekend.

It could get very bad for him next weekend. They could lose by 6 or 7 easily.

He's not ranked as the third best keeper - that list is sorted alphabetically...

It's not entirely clear what one stat you'd use to determine who's performing best.   Possibly PSxG, although I'm not sure where -2.5 goals comes from as the stats show he's conceded 11 against an xG of 7.5, so that should be -3.5?   Maybe it's only counting xG from shots on target - if that's what it is, then only Danny Ward at Leicester (-6.1) is doing worse this season.

Also, I don't agree Bazunu did nothing wrong for the first Armenia goal.   If you look at the replay looking down the pitch from behind the Armenia goal (on the RTÉ Twitter feed), you can see that when the first shot is sent in, Bazunu's footwork is nil.   He had time to take a step to the right and give himself an easier save wide, but instead he delays and then dives, so starting from a worse position, with the result that he can only touch the ball onto the post, and we know what happened from there.

There were others to blame for the goal too - as is often the way - but Bazunu was definitely at fault.

He's only 20 of course and still learning.   But let's not be completely blinded for that.

It's not based on that rank. It's based on all of the criteria, which you have to interpret yourself. I interpreted it as 3rd, but he was actually ranked 5th at the time of the tweet below.

I completely disagree on the 1st goal. You can nitpick at any goal if you're looking to find reasons to criticise. The 2nd was a bad error, and that warrants criticism.

This forum seems to take joy in picking on Bazunu. Either Liverpool fans or Cork natives... meh.

I think almost everyone had Hassenhutl one of the first mangers to be sacked, particularly with the way they finished last season. The board have completely changed the backroom team prior to a ball being kicked. Given what's in front of him and the amount of shots they have faced, he's done remarkably well.

Bazunu will be still starting long after Hassenhutl is gone

I take it you have never visited the Kelleher thread then, Gavin Bazunu is treated well by comparison. You could just as easily lay the lazy accusation that it's all Dubs and United criticising him...  Most right thinking Irish fans wish all of our three excellent young keepers well, irrespective of teams and geography.

Pep Guardiola on Gavin Bazunu: "We were incredibly impressed before we loaned him, when he trained with #ManCity, we were impressed with his personality. How he kept the back four in line. So brave, he is a top goalkeeper..."

Pep Guardiola: “Another example of a player in our academy who has an opportunity to play #PL, if he is playing it's because Ralph isn't stupid. Everyone has personality, some keepers don’t communicate much. But he was living it - he was involved in every action."

Thoughts and prayers for Bazunu as Southampton travel to City today. Could very well be Southamptons next 9-0.

Watched about an hour of the game today and he actually played very well despite the scoreline. Made some good saves and looked very composed on the ball. One of those ones where he comes out looking good despite conceding 4.

Yeah, he was very good.

He made a great save 1 vs 1 with Haaland. He came out and smothered the ball while Haaland charged down on goal after a brilliant KDB pass. Very easy to get that wrong and give away a penalty.

12 long balls out of 36 isn't bad against an elite pressing side. Southampton's tactic is often to go long due to their 4-4-2 style.

The only goal he could have done better for was the Foden chip. He perhaps came out a little bit too early, which made up Foden's mind for him.

And we all know Haaland shat himself at the sight of Big Gav that time he hit the post. Wink

Conceded as many goals against them as Travers. Still hasn't kept a clean sheet all season, either for them or us, despite the benefits of playing every possible game he could. Will probably be one of the first to lose his place  when the new man replaces Hasenhuttl, as happened to Travers.

Probably? More like hopefully in your case.

I would love it if the new manager makes him captain and you cry into your pillow at night.
