I know that nobody else cares about it apart from us, but that's 4 goals conceded in a week, and he wasn't exactly facing a ton of shots last night. He's practically guaranteed to concede at least one goal in every Ireland game he plays, and atm it's 2 goals per game. He only has Erling Haaland to face next month. Best of luck with that.
Kelleher conceded less than that amount, in double the amount of gametime in this group. And yet bizarrely, there is still demands for Travers, the man who lost his last game 9-0, to get the nod ahead of him.

Oasis all day long. I was on stage with them when they debuted on the Letterman Show back in 1995. "Live Forever" and all that. I couldn't get over how tiny the pugnacious Gallagher brothers were in person.

I think the last 2 games (plus the Premier League game the last time) definitely planting a few seeds about is ability to be world class. Still very young and we've seen young goalkeepers make mistakes and still go on to be world class but I don't think it's a sure thing that It's Bazunu N.1 and Kelleher N.2 in the long term. Still a 50/50 one for me. Kelleher needs a move too though

Neither keeper is the finished product. Both are still growing and evolving. Anyone who claims to know which will ultimately wind up as our #1, is simply guessing at this point.

You're going to concede goals when your own players gift the opposition opportunities to score like Browne and Hourihane did in the past 2 games. Kellher has played against:
4 of them were friendlies. 1 clean sheet in competitive games. Bazunu has played against Portugal x2, Serbia and Scotland. Kelleher has played against Ukraine x2, Belgium and Scotland. Bazunu has faced attackers such as Ronaldo, Jota, Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, Mitrović, Vlahović, Tadić and McGinn. Kelleher has faced attackers such as Yarmolenko, Murdyk, Batshuayi, McGinn and Che Adams. Bazunu has faced better quality players overall. Belgium rotated heavily against us. Kelleher didn't have to experience Lukaku, Hazard, KDB, Trossard, etc. |

Bazunu conceded 2 goals against Armenia at home, and he should have saved both of them. You can add that to his collection against Andorra Azerbaijan Qatar and Luxembourg. Better quality players they're not. He hasn't been facing Haaland every time. Well he will have to next time, even for just an hour. He conceded half the amount of goals in the group in just 2 games. If there's no confidence in him keeping a clean sheet, then he shouldn't be out there. At this stage, I would have more confidence in Randolph, than watching him concede goal after goal after goal every game.

Definitely there’s concerns with Bazouna, Southampton fans seem to share them over the opening weeks of the season also. We can keep resting lazily on “he’s young and inexperienced” but there’s no guarantee he’ll get better (or worse), remember Colin Doyle, premiership keeper with Birmingham at similar age, never kicked on etc. What we do know is he is currently our #1 and he’s struggling a bit, though not with ball at feet or commanding the box IMO more positioning & shot stopping.

Baz definitely wasn't the issue over the 2 games. Didn't really have much to do in Scotland. Couldn't do anything for the goals.
Against Armenia he made a great save in the build up to their first goal. Not sure he could do much for that one. The lions share of the blame is with the defence (Collins ) not following up. Undoubtedly he should have done better for the second. That's the first goal he's conceded for us so far where you could argue he should have done better. There's no doubt he's still number 1 at the moment. He's starting every week in PL and will continue to get better. Travers has been shafted after being the best keeper in the championship last year. Kelleher needs football between now and March, it's as simple as that. I think people are forgetting how young our 3 keepers are, especially for the positions they're playing in. They will make mistakes. Travers had a mare in Serbia for us and was written off by most on here. He's come on leaps and bounds since (unfairly shafted as I mentioned)

There is nothing wrong with the 1st goal against Armenia. Only gobsh*tes with an agenda think so. Clean sheets aren't solely on a goalkeeper. Ederson's regularly wins The Golden Glove award. That's because of City's system more than his goalkeeping ability. He's better on the ball than he is at saving shots. Bazunu prevented the Luxembourg game from being more embarrassing than it already was. Gerson Rodrigues, the match winner, has scored 14 goals for Luxembourg. Including goals against Serbia, Portugal and Turkey. It was a fantastic strike. We keep conceding goals from the edge of our box. Thats's why we aren't keeping clean sheets. Both Bazunu and Kelleher have suffered because of it. The only goal that even close to saveable from the goals conceded against the 4 nations you mentioned was possibly Muntari's. We need to defend the edge of our box better. It's an issue. Clean sheets don't really matter at the end of the day. Winning games are more important. Under defensive managers like McCarthy and Trapattoni, keeping clean sheets was more important than scoring. Keep the games tight, try not to lose. Now that we're trying to be a bit more expansive, we're leaving ourselves more open to conceding. That's the risk you take. We scored 2+ goals three times from 10 games during Mick's 2nd term in charge. We've scored 2+ goals 9 times under Kenny. Most of Mick's came in friendlies. Kenny's Ireland are scoring 2+ goals more regularly in competitive games. Sort out our issues with regards to defending the edge of our box and we will improve.

But he is young. 20 years old is remarkably young for a GK. He's probably the best U21 GK in the world right now. Definitely the best U20. De Gea was still a work in progress at United during his first 2 seasons. Even after a full season as Atlético's #1 GK. Bazunu is the same. I wouldn't really pay too much attention to a few Saints fans. I've watched 4 Southampton games this season. He's been good in the majority of them. Impressive against United. He's ranked as the 3rd best PL GK this season so far, statistically speaking. |

He does need to be sharper when he doesnt have much work to do in a game.
Different game facing 13 shots against Liverpool and facing 2 against Armenia. Small issue. Still massively clear as first choice.

Players will go through dips in form, especially younger players. It's clear from both his Southampton and Ireland displays that Bazunu isn't playing as well now as he was last year. He was unlucky for the first goal, but very poor for the second one. Hopefully he can turn things around at club level by next year, because the only realistic alternatives for us at the moment are two backup keepers at club level, which is not much use.

Despite all the posts, I genuinely feel the GK position is the least of our worries, I'd happily have either Bazunu or Kelleher starting the first qualifier in March, both are excellent young keepers and are a damn sight better options than most countries have available. Neither have been flawless in their Ireland careers to date, but both have generally been very good, slightly different strengths and weaknesses, so imo it's still a tough call as to who should be #1, it's not as clear cut as some try and make out, but thats a good problem for the manager to have. I'd be entirely happy with whomever of the two gets the nod come March.

Bazunu definitely the least of our worries. His distribution is getting better too. Just a little bit disappointing that for the first time you were definitely saying "Ah f**k sake he should be saving that".
Was a little worried that he hasn't been having those amazing performances for Saints as he has been for us. One of those games where its a 9/10 performance. So far they are all kind of 7/10

I be more worried if goalies are having 8/10 9/10 performances each game. Means there's issues infront of them.

Fact is he's playing for a relatively poor club and International sides, so long as he isn't making absolute howlers (which he isn't) there's not alot much more you can ask |
