This time last year Travers got dropped and whether rightly/wrongly because like Bazunu at the min, he let in too many goals even tho none were really his direct mistakes. Year on in championship Travers looks more assured and better keeper. For those who knock Travers, he is younger than Kelleher and got promoted to seniors while Kelleher lined out for U21s. If all 3 are in same situation/form when new manager comes in with clean slate  then Travers man most in form.

Haven’t seen any of Travers at Stoke but even last year when he was playing for Bournemouth there were often goals where, while not his mistake you do be thinking a top keeper would have done better.

I do think Baz has the highest ceiling but he just seems to have lapses in concentration and needs to work on his positioning and kicking.
Kelleher needs to get out of Liverpool.

Travers is an excellent shot stopper but his all round game is miles off the other two. Not a natural with the ball at his feet and doesn't command his area at all well. A lot of goals he concedes, particularly from crosses and set pieces, don't initially look like his fault but another keeper would have been punching them away whereas he just stays close to his line and leaves them to his defence.

Travers' shot stopping abilities, combined with Kelleher's football skills and Bazunu's ability/willingness to come off his line to clear danger and go for balls in all put together would give you an absolute top-level keeper. But if the three we have Bazunu still looks like the best all rounder at this point.

Travers... really?

I'm not sure he's the solution.  Probably worst Irish goal-keeping performance in last 50 years in Belgrade away to Serbia.

Genuinely at a loss to think of a worse one - Packie in Orlando, maybe, but that was just one mistake.

As for Bazunu, he's generally ranged from good to excellent for us imo.

Shay Given v Spain 2012
Shay Given v Italy 2012

Ha, not quite. We didn't lose our group games in the Euros just because of Shay Given!  We were comprehensively out-classed.

Travers' mistakes in Belgrade were individual errors that cost us the chance to start of our WC qualification with a win away to a seeded team.

He was still f**king sh*t at that tournament though. Was at fault for goals in all three games. The one at his near post against Croatia was like watching an 80 year old man trying to bend down to get to the ball.

Shay was horrendous in every Euro 2012 game, unbelievably bad actually. He was clearly injured and shouldn't have played 1 let alone 3 games.

Travers was in the Championship Team of the season 2 years ago. He had one bad game for Ireland 3 years ago. Deserves another chance.

As a few people have said he's a better shot stopper than Baz. Considering the number of goals we conved from long range, would a better shot stopper not be the way to go? Or at least try?

Didn't know before today that Bazunu had a trial at Brighton before he went to Man City. Wonder if he'd now be their first choice keeper if he'd signed there instead.

A goalkeeper's primary function is to save shots, command his area and give his defence a sense of confidence and belief.  Being good with the ball at your feet should not be important for an irish keeper.

Only benefits a team having a keeper that’s good with ball at his feet is if the rest of the team knew what a first touch was and had a bit of imagination to find space, pass, move and play. That’s not us.

One of the reasons Steele became number one at Brighton is because he was good with ball at his feet. Bazunu is not good enough to suit Brighton’s style imo

How many mistakes has Baz made for Ireland? Very few.

He deserves the NO1 spot based on what he has has done in the Ireland jersey not in the Southampton one
It would damage this forums' reputation

Have you been watching Bazunu these past few years?

His distribution is one of the strongest parts of his game. Especially before he joined Southampton.

He set up multiple attacks for Southampton the other night.

He's 21 and grown up in an era which places an emphasis on ball playing.

Another questionable concession by Bazunu from outside the box. I'll grab my helmet!

Terrible play from the defender to lose the ball where he did and the strike is decent but he should be at least getting something on it. He’s close to his near post too.

Never really post on this thread but Holgate is a disaster but also Big Gav needs to be saving that at his near post.
