Yeah no matter what people say he's stuck in a dodge defence  but has been suspect enough last season and this.

Stats are not allowed in this thread, unless it’s in Bazunu’s favour

XG has nothing to do with the quality of the shot itself, it's a measure of the likelihood of a player scoring from a particular position. Worth noting that there are also different XG frameworks used by different outlets, so it's by no means an exact science. Go back and actually watch the 12 goals and see which ones you think he should have saved.

post-shot xg does have everything to do with the quality of the shot - its based on how likely the goalkeeper is to save the shot

You Tell Me basically reading into the future. It’s not going to be the last time Southampton are going to concede a barrage of goals either.

It happened against Gillingham too with McCarthy in goals. As for the goals the 3rd one did catch him out alright but the rest?? The defending for the 4th goal was embarrassing.

Just seems everytime he takes a step forward with Southampton it’s two steps back and tbh that sums up Southampton as a club too. Considering the position they were in their transfer window regarding securing incomings and building a team to go back up was borderline amateurish.

Especially with Russell Martin as manager whose idea of defending is you score two and we'll score three.

I'm sorry to say it lads, because he started his professional career with such promise, but the more I've seen of him the more I've come to the conclusion that he's just not a very good goalkeeper.

I hope I'm proved wrong, but I feel his professional career in England is at a turning point right now.

Anybody watching? How was he for the goals?

Edit- just checked the southampton forum, sounds like he's made a couple of good saves

Smallbone getting absolutely slated for losing his man for the 3rd. Martin isn't going to last, Southampton going badly downhill

3 1 down at HT time now. But he has actually been pretty good. Some good saves and good distribution on the ground and throw outs. S-hampton are so easy to play thru.

Defending is optional for Russell Martin. Swansea conceded a 132 goals in the league his two seasons there.

Feel for him playing in front of that defence.

He needs a Collins type agent/team around him that will just get him out of that sh*thole ASAP if he has any hope of carving out a top level career for himself. Simple as.

I have pointed to their clueless owners on here multiple times during the summer.

Angus Gunn likewise only getting his career back on track at Norwich now after they ruined him too. It’s a huge issue with Southampton and goalkeepers before we even begin to talk about “Sports Republic“ or whatever fancy name their new owners have. They are clueless Southampton won’t be going back up with them running the show.
