Former Everton and Liverpool defender Gary Ablett has died at the age of 46 after a 16-month battle against non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Rip Gary - I remember being at a drifters everton game
Back in 95 and down by the touchline hearing this repeated high pitch call of "neen-ja, neen-ja" before realising it was amokachi calling for the ball off ablett (whose nickname presumably was down to his eyes) - was a well respected player and a good pro. Was very good in the blues' cup run of 1995.

Terrible news - far too young. Remember reading about his illness last year here http://www.evertonfc.com/news/archive/2011/09/15/ablett-backs-blue-september. He went through bone marrow transplants and all sorts. A true gent who played for both Merseyside clubs with distinction. RIP Gary.
