With a trip to the States on the cards during the summer, there may be a few new faces in Trap's squad, but who will be next to be promoted from the U-21 set up.

Duffy on the basis that Trap has had him around the senior squad already

Sean Scannell was on the verge of the senior squad 2-3 years ago, but his career stalled over the last few years with injury

Conor Clifford should be the next one. Has had good loan spells this season, and as captian for Chelsea youths he acquited himself well. Definitely ready I think.

Duffy was already in a squad before he got injured and now that he has got a loan move to a top Championship club he should be in contention. The rest of the guys certainly have potential though.

Unfortunitly of the players listed there are only 2 playing regularly. Richie Towell is playing right back for Hibs and Gavin Gunning is playing left back for Motherwell in the SPL.

I'd go with Duffy too, he's already been in the squad, he'll need more gametime after being out for so long, so Everton might even give it their blessing.
Clifford, Henderson, and Brady would be my next choices, in that order too. What are the chances of Barton never getting a game for the senior team?? Edited by tetsujin1979 - 02 Apr 2011 at 7:57pm |

Barton. I can see him being called into the squad for America. Particularly to try to keep him with Ireland rather than NI or England.

Richie Towell played well today according to match reports. A summer trip to the States may be on the cards. |

Clifford, captain for FA Youth Cup.......lad is a born leader and winner. Duffy will be very good I think. The rest.....have potential but Duffy and Clifford are the hopes.....

I'd like to see some of these progressing (especially Duffy, Clifford and the exciting Brady) but they should be at least getting some game time with their clubs before becoming fully fledged internationals, especially when there are other older players knocking on the door for places.

Henderson is highly rated at Arsenal, which in fairness is probably the best academy in Britain. Hopefully he will get more chances with Arsenal or be sent out on loan next season.

Personally I would like to see Conor Wickham from Ipswich , but I'm not sure if he's in u21 panel. Also I second the Henderson statement, if he's there next year, Wenger and Brady must rate him
