Good piece on Kieron Brady in the Celtic v Sunderland programme from Saturdays match @ Celtic Pk.

To think the guy was only twenty two when his football career came to a very pemature end as he had a very rare vasular injury.

What a star he could have been for Ireland.

Brady sued SAFC and got an out of court settlement. Sunderlands physio at the time was not fully qualified.

Kieron only played 33 games on Wearside and very nearly signed for Chelsea as a youngster before ending up at Sunderland.

Played a number of games for the U21's and the youths under Maurice setters and as far as I can remember he was a tough player. Played well and with a lot of heart. But at that time we had such a lot of midfield players including one Roy Keane. Thought he spent some time at Manchester United but I could be wrong.

Kieron was a presenter on a local radio phone in show tonight with former Newcastle player Dubliner John Anderson. Both were singing the praises of Shane Long & Rob Elliot.

Kieron will be good. Already heard a few stories about him. One time he was playing in U-21 tournament against Zidane - Kieron got man of the match!
Would have been a great talent!
Will be good to see him talk and still a big Celtic fan too.

Was at a charity talk in last night in Sunderland where KB was one of the speakers.

He came over very well and was happy to the talk to fans in the interval and at the end.

I was at another talk in featuring Kieron and Stuart Donald last night and as usual he came over as intelligent articulate and passionate.

He talked openly and honestly about his problems with booze say he was an alchoholic who hasn't drank for nearly ten years and was full of praise for the help and support AA had given him.

He told the story about being at 10 Downing Street at an event when Gordon Brown was PM when he worked for Red Card against Racism.

KB said he was very drunk and he has vague memories of the event but what stuck in his mind and got him thinking about giving up booze was early the next morning he was sat on a park bench near Downing Street drinking cans of Stella.

Yeah having to drink Stella would be enough to make anyone half sane think about giving up the sup.
