Topic: Interest announced Posted: 24 Oct 2007 at 2:57pm |
Six men have put their name forward to the FAI for the job already. None of them send a shiver down my spine.
They are: Ron Atkinson (joke), Phillippe, Trousier, Liam Brady, Joe Kinnear, Foppe de Haan and Brian Kerr.
De Haan seems to be a man who knows his football, he coaches youth sides on the beauty of the game. That, in truth, is the exact opposite of the type of man we need. As for the others, they almost make me be from another country!!!!

would love brady or mcgrath involved somewere around the squad but not as the main man, no chance, that would be a fryin pan/fire situation.

Lads we can't consider the likes of Kinnear or George Graham or blokes who've been out football for years, it's just not on. And it's OMAR Troussier now lads, not Philippe, he's converted to Islam according to Michael McMullen this morning Today FM. And I certainly wouldn't have Big Paul involved. He's my favourite player of all time but listening to him on the radio I'm not sure he has what it takes to be involved in a supporting role.

I don't think Brady would be the man either. i think he's more suited to a background role similar to what he does at Arsenal. And what he does at Arsenal he does very very well.
give him the u/17, u/19 and u/21 jobs - we'd have world class players popping up from boston, burkina faso and ballybunion in no time.

What difference does it make if they haven't been in the game recently?
It's still the same game with the same rules, you don't lose all the experience because you haven't been directly involved in managing players.

LY, if they're out of the game that long, you have to ask why is that? Not bothered, too old, not good enough, not healthy enough, tired of management..........I think Kinnear and Graham could fit into most or all of those categories. Brady won't get near it either, he was a disaster at Celtic (when it was admittedly in turmoil), didn't set Brighton alight and as he said last night, his Arsenal set up is about bringing through young fellas with the match results not being the be all. In international ball, it's results or you're out.

Paul McGrath??
my fave player ever to wear the green, but i saw him at close quaters when he was "at" Waterford Utd (i was 4th official) his imput was an occasional "shout" of "cmon lads". And i think he is too shy for management.
Brady NO, Kinnear NO..Oleary NO no..
Roy Hodgson or terry Venables, with Chrissie hughton beside him..

Somehow I can't see a muslim managing the irish team... take that as u want. Joe Kinnear is someone who i believe can do a good job.
