15 cent isn't an incentive. It would want to be higher.

Bloke in the job never recycled and was proud to say "it all goes in the same bin whatever has room". We were informing him this is all his fault but He is still saying it's all going into the same bin and doesnt give a feck about the charges.

Would be Good to see after 2 years in operation what the improvement in recycling rates actually get to.

The issue Id have is the way it is expected that Joe Public will have to deal with. Plenty of people recycle at home and bring their rubbish home with them. But here we are having to pay more money up front, bring it home to store it up and drag it all back to get OUR money back. There surely has to be another way. Governments could tell the massive multi nationals to come up with a better aternative than plastic and have it in place within a few years for example, but they dont. Or charge the big international companies per bottle if they sell their product in plastic conainers, that would be an incentive for for them to change and find alternatives.

Can’t imagine having more than 5 or 6 bottles/cans per week to put in it anyway.

That may be the case in your household.

Also a bit of a disaster for anybody tight on space

But the whole point also is that hopefully it will change spending habits and people will buy less products made from plastic or cans and it will put pressure on the producers.

There is nothing essential as far as I can see that comes in a plastic drinking bottle or can that can’t be purchased.  Thinks like milk or baby’s milk don’t count so it’s just nonsense spending such as soft drinks and alcohol etc.

People have 3 choices, reduce their spending,  take the hit on the sales tax or to return the can or drinks to the shops.

One little bag for life won’t take up much room. People love a good Moan about new schemes although it’s been in place in many European countries for 20 years or so.

And I’m telling you that in my household on a weekly basis it wouldn’t be just one bag for life. You’re right about spending habits. We horse through sparkling water. Easily a 2l or two a day. Already looking at a tap as the soda streams are crap.

The schemes have been successfully ran in other countries. We always balls it up and you know it, it’s been rushed. Serious finessing required.

But that’s the point you don’t need the 2l a day of sparkling water from a plastic bottle.  This is nudge economics and it will alter silly or soft spending habits.

Went yesterday with four old cans to see if it'd work. It took three but rejected a can of beer they didn't sell themselves.

Tills weren't set up to take the vouchers then 😂

My issue is me neighbours will see my secret shame of bags full of beer cans.

Will have to invest and store another bin now too because they are not allowed to be damaged either so you can't just squash them somewhere out if the way they will need to be stored somewhere fairly secure.

People that are saying "it won't work". There's no turning back so what won't work is that you will pay extra for your cans or bottles but just not get your refund and be then paying 15c extra per can

I've still not seen a can with the logo that needs to be on it for it to be usable in these machines.

Exactly the amount of cans and bottles thrown all over the city and countryside is shocking .  This gives an incentive to people to either return their own or pick up those left by others.  Works in Denmark and many other European countries.  Smoking ban was attack by many when it came it and people saying this and that won’t work and the same with the plastic bag levy.  In reality I expect this to work well after a couple of teething problems.

It will be both of those things and it will also be lots of people just bringing them when they do their trip to the supermarket.
