We can't just say "copy Croatia" because they come from a different historical background to us (state sponsored sport etc) and their domestic clubs are sharing 44 million Euro in a TV deal.
We'd need to be drawing on elements of what they do as well as looking at the likes of Belgium, Iceland etc and tailoring something for ourselves taking the relevant bits from elsewhere which is what I am sure the likes of Canham are doing.

So yeah an easy fix there, just copy that

Very ill informed dumb comment -really? Pay attention to what's being said.

Well that should be our aim.  The funny thing is Croatian football has been full of allegations of corruption and all sorts over the last 10 years so in some way they have produced the players despite their football association not because of it.
A good croatian coach or up and coming French or Spanish coach is required.  A clean break from Irish and UK systems,  players required.  Its a 5 year plan for us at all levels. Not Rotherham Or Hull coaches an ex Irish internationals like our current assistant to the present manager who are bull sh#tters. A clean  break is required.

I’m going to pull the thread off topic here, but LOI attendances aren’t a million miles of the Croatian league this season.

Demand for live football in this country is at an all time high, imagine the league we’d have if the facilities matched the enthusiasm.

Bandwagoners or not, any nation that consistently gets the crowds we do, is really missing a trick. Terrible, terrible lobbying by the administration of soccer in this country.

Yet you have greyhound sport (that LITERALLY wouldn't exist without gambling) getting millions injected into its coffers.

It's not like soccer is a Gamble of an investment. FAI have been hopeless.

I wouldn't have Neil Lennon or Roy Keane near the job. For me the outstanding candidate is Lee Carsley. If he is interested then where we stand at the minute to hire the manager who won the euro under 21 championships would be a coup. I always try to imagine if we hired the Spanish under 21 manager who had just won the Euros. I dare say there would be a lot of excitement.

I wouldn't be against Steve Bruce and would be happy to give him a chance. I saw Willy Sagnol was 20/1. I remember him as a player but anyone know his record as a manager?
Walters coming back from an offside position but Shane Long was definitely onside- Shane Lonnggggggg.... has done it!!!!

Coleman is the best on that list, and I feel he was a very lucky manager having Bale and Ramsey drag the team to the Euro's.  Said it before, Neil Lennon would be a great choice in my opinion.

Lennon’s day is gone and he has a volatile temperament. No thanks.

Does he a have a drink problem or was that horrible rumours started by Rangers fans.

He has a management problem

Gary Rowatt wouldn't be the worst as you said, would like to think we could do better.

Agree that he would be preferable (but only marginally so) to the likes of Keane, Hughton, Bruce but would prefer someone with more experience. Would prefer a Roy Hodgson type (a more progressive version of Steve Bruce) to the likes of Kennedy.

Think looking further afield and not limiting ourselves to managers with Irish connections is the way to go though.

How would a Roy Hodgson type fit into the need to work as part of of bigger plan involving collaboration and development with the underage teams?
He wouldn't but is that really part of a senior managers responsibilities?

If you don't want any success to be built on sand than in a country of our size and based on how we haven't done that in the past it has to be. If you looking at the "smaller" countries that have had success then that's how they have gone about it. And just looking at how they appear to be going about the process to get a new ladies manager in then I don't think it's unreasonable to assume that they will adopt something broadly similar to that for the men's role.
We don't just want to qualify for a tournament - We want to be qualify for tounaments.
Yeah that's a fair point, I just think the senior managers role is to first and foremost pick the best players available to him and get the best out of those players within the short time period he has with them. Im not so sure that collaboration and development of underage age teams should be falling into the snr managers responsibilities.
