Topic: player of campaign?? Posted: 16 Oct 2007 at 4:48am |
wish i could sit ere and be spoilt for choice between half a dozen or so, but for me its down to dickie and shay as well..ye seem to leave every game this last few years mentioning there names all the times for their heroics..but i will give the vote to my own townie..if only he was in cyprus,i think we might have got something out of there

andy reid for me lads , i know he only played two games but he was better in those that any of the other muppets were in all the rest put together.
honourable mentions to GIVEN ,DUNNE , HUNT , DOYLE , MCSHANE and IRELAND.
lads i have to say that although it is doom and gloom now that we really will have a great chance in the world cup if we can keep everyone fit and blood in more youingsters in the upcoming friendlies.

For me, the jury is still out on McShane.
Prone to errors at times. Committed yes, but not too sure about the world class thing just yet.
Player of the campaign is Shay Given for me.
And i'm sick of it being our keeper who is our best player
Dunne is a good lad but has made a couple of errors and unfortunately that's what people remember.
Don't ask me to name the errors though cause I don't remember

Given to Given. As much as it sickens me to think that shay has to be man of the match or thereabouts in nearly every game we play in.

Dunne for me lads, by the merest whisker from Shay. Given was our Man of the last WC campaign, but I just think Dunne has been consistently excellent and often inspirational. Shame some of the other "senior" players haven't bought into Dunny's example.

I totally agree Count... Shay is probably the best most dedicated man on the squad. He consistently performs to a world class level and has saved us a number of times... If he was healthy for the entire campaign we might have even qualified, or at least drawn a lot more. Dunne has been a delight to watch and consistently very good. Stevie "Crazy Horse" Ireland has been great and saved us many times (when he isn't being a nutter).

Dont get me wrong im a big fan of richie, but again its a building for the future thing. McShane is quality, he's young & not a arrogent c#nt...
Given is obviously the best player we have/ had however im not a big fan of goalie captains...

nobody can disagree with you there count, but in terms of how richie has come on in the last few years and cutting out all his mistakes he has been immense!!!I can see Shay getting player of the year though again and it will be three years running ,says alot about what is in front of him!!

can't agree with you there london, although he is a very talented bot I can't see him getting to the heights of World class defender like our Richie all the way from the Jober!!!
And Gingers should never be given leadership look at the focker who we have managing with his "its not ginger its strawberry blond"

Shay Given has been by absolute miles!! If it wasnt for Given playing and saving our ars*s every single game we would most certainly be looking at fifth place in the group! Dunne has been excellent, but Given has been world class, the only player we can say that about!

Dunne maybe, but at 28, he wont be captain for another few years (if stan stays anyway...)
McShane has should moments of quality throughout the campain, and obvious signs of leadership... At only 21 he could be a world class defender in future years.
Plus as a ginger, he isn't gonna get a big head like our current el capitano...
