I stayed in a hotel in that area - quite a few junkies hanging around but they were so 'out of it', they didn't even notice me or anyone else passing by so I didn't feel in any danger from them. Having said that, I still walked briskly past them on my way back to the hotel at night.

Yeah a few dodgy streets around there but tbh didn't have a problem, was blind drunk one night as well. If you've your wits about ya it's fine, metro is like 5 minutes away as well, just if you were to walk down to where the nice bars are or where the Irish were last time you'll have to probably talk down some of these streets

Ah no only messing there was a lot of conversation on here about that area being dodgy before the last game.

Yes there was lots of drug use and junkies in Athens, but would say many parts of inner city Dublin are more intimidating.

Athens was a fantastic place imo. Lots to see, decent booze, great food and great weather. Giving it serious consideration on a return visit

Hearing from a well placed source that the Dubai lads are planning on bringing this with them. Not sure what to make of it

Stayed in the Diros last year for game, it's fine. Close to Metro and handy for all the sites. Couple of dodgy streets are north of Omonia Square, but only really at night. Same as anywhere, just keep your wits about you. If you take a left outside the hotel and walk down street a bit, there's a steak house and restaurant/bar opposite each other off to the left, both decent, friendly spots. Haven't booked this trip yet but would have no bother returning to area.

Stayed in Hotel Elikon right on Omonia Square last time and we had no hassle at all .

Booked the Dunlin Hotel with a rooftop bar and view of the Acropolis in and around the same area for pretty cheap this time.

I assume Athens would be still warm enough in October?
Wings? They're only the band The Beatles could have been.

The gyros were class and I've become a fan of zucchini and replacing mayo with a yoghurt sauce after that trip. As for the junkies I've been around Dublin city centre enough to not to put off it anywhere else even Greece. The cats everywhere were more annoying but if the alternative is rats I'll take it.

There was a lot of junkies in parts but I think I was only bothered once by one of them looking for money and acting weird. Most were just goofed on the ground escaping their reality

Yeah we didn't have any issues with junkies or spoke to anyone that did. Found it to be one of the more enjoyable trips actually.
