Just the most bizarrely Irish performance ever.

Having to take Molumby off was a big factor and the lack of bite without him in midfield was alarming. Thank god he's kicked on a bit in that we have an alternative of sorts to Cullen.
Collins played well but him bombing forward without the protection of Molumby or a Cullen in midfield mightn't have been the smartest thing in hindsight. Hendrick/Hourihane ain't that type of player. He was too far forward to help deal with the first goal.

The pass from Hourihane only he could explain that. Bazunu could be doing better for the 2nd goal

Obafemi and Collins played well and even when it all went wrong in the 2nd half Obafemi kept grinding making things happen.
Parrott and Knight were dissapointing. Knight has stalled and should simply be after moving on from Derby long ago. Hendrick very sloppy on the ball too as was Brady at times.

Doherty put in a 6 or 7 out of 10 performance no complaints as did Egan.

The lack or substitutes until Armenia got those two goals was alarming too. 71st minute and no subs in a game drifting. Ogbene should have been put on for the last half an hour at least.

Doherty was pure sh*te. Not sure what you were watching. At least coleman will play with a bit of pride when he’s there

What did he do wrong exactly? He wasn't barnstorming but meh what major negative contribution did he make. Didn't give the ball away much made some positive attacking contributions. Surprised out of all the above that's what you'd be worried about.

I agree with all of your points apart from Doherty, hence singling that one out. He’s playing as a wing back, he created absolutely zero. In a team that lacks creativity in the middle, we should be reliant on wing backs to do so. Brady on the other side put some dangerous balls into the box from open play, up to the strikers to make use of them. Can’t remember one decent ball Doherty put in

Smallbone absolutely is, doing it week in/out in the Championship now has prior PL experience too and was probably our best player for the u21s since coming back from injury.

Put it this was hes up to more than Hourihane and Hendrick.

Doing what? Playing? Not sure what Smallbone you've been watching, but if anyone thinks he's going to solve our midfield issues, good luck.

Smallbone was pretty poor for the two play off games. But as pointed out he could hardly be a worse option than Hourihane.

I've been head of the queue when it comes to getting Hourihane fired from a canon into the abyss, never to return.

Still can't believe he's getting picked. How does Kenny watch back the games and think he should be part of the squad? It's decisions like that which has always worried me about Kenny. Loyalty won't save you in the end.

Back to Smallbone. Yes, a better option than Hourihane, but barring the odd game here and there and some nice passes/touches here and there (and I stress here and there), he's not much of an upgrade on the midfield we have.

By all means, lets hear you suggestions for what midfielders we should add to the squad, we're all ears.

There are none. I'm not debating his inclusion. Just set your expectations to zip. The guy has been pure hype, and personally, have seen nothing to indicate that he would make any significant difference to the current midfield.

Coventry can run, pass & tackle.
Smallbone can run, pass & score a few goals.

By default they are better options than Hourihane.

Coventry made several daft mistakes in midfield similar to Hourihane's. Smallbone, as promising as he is, goes missing through games (sound similar?) Hourihane did put in one great cross that led to a goalscoring opportunity.

more importantly why do RTE have that GAA Karen leading the coverage of the game.  She is sh*te on the Sunday game and even worse on the football.  She would killl the craic at an orgy.

I've defended Hourihane and do think he gets more stick than he deserves but agree there is little point in picking him at this stage ahead of young guys who could do with the experience. Limited and all as Hourihane is and was, he was always very eager to play for his country and had some good moments. But time to move on, no doubt.

If we are going to play three midfielders then Hourihane can not be anywhere near the team. He has gone from being bad to being a catastrophe.

Hogan let everyone know why he shouldn't be near the side either, after some called for his inclusion. He's miles off it.

He put in another crossfield pass that led to an Armenia goal. And another ball into their keepers hands that led to another Armenia goal.

Smallbone certainly is. Coventry is miles off. Azaz is an interesting one.Molumby reverted to type tonight! Only useful for a scrap!

I thought he was our best player despite having to do all the donkey work, created our best chances, only player who connected with connolly at all. Our best spell was when him, Azaz and connolly linked up.

I kind of agree. Ive been a Kenny fan but we go 2-2 and we bring on Robinson and Browne. Ogbene has been in flying form and he didnt even get a minute!!!!! Parrott was left on too long as he was playing poorly and Obafemi as good as he was looked tired and was only taken off at 85 mins. We totally cashed in a lot of chips in luck tonight. Felt like a defeat to me.

I assume Ogbene is injured, if not, it's a really poor decision not to involve him for a multitude of reasons
