His style of debate was always likely to be stumbled upon, at some point as an effective strategy. In simple terms when debating somebody you rarely encounter a stonewalling of ridicule. In fact, it is likely to become a strategy going forward.

It only works if most people observing the debate think The interviewer deserves to be ridiculed and the Nona Fides of the person doing the ridiculing stand up. In the wrong hands this strategy could backfire. As. result it’s not really that much of a strategy it’s just him being authentic and being interviewed by right wing puppets who make themselves look ridiculous due to lack of journalistic talent.

I’m not sure id buy the idea that it’s not guided by debating strategy. I think we have seen this sort of thing over the past decade and it is useful, especially if people want to see the likes of Morgan and Burley taken down a peg or two.

rory stewart tweeted the other day that political operatives will be studying micks performance this week and implementing lessons learnt. it'll be interesting to see who the first copy cats will be.

I actually agree with that. It will become a form of ejector seat in tough debate.

You don’t need to imagine just look at Burley and Morgan and how they reacted. Worse thing any politician could do is try copy the strategy of it’s not authentic to them and try to learn it off as a tactic. They will end up looking like David Brent dealing with his boss Neil.

I think if politicians in general started trying it it might stick. To the discerning centrist it will look ridiculous, but the rest will just applaud to the extent it suits their tribalism.

indeed which is why we'll possibly see new faces coming to the fore who have managed to master the debating tactic. any well known politician who implements lynch's methods will likely be met with cynicism.
