There is that but people don't think twice about heading down to the bank/ credit union for a house improvement or car loan, this is no different and is in fact arguably a far better investment.

...and for those who don't want to or can't afford the initial capital outlay can shell out a monthly repayment as low as €29.50 over 10 years for a PV system to be installed with no upfront cost. a company in Dublin called http://www.mysolar.ie provide such a service. You save a few hundred quid every year, they make money over the life of the repayment scheme, the government are happy and you're doing your bit by cutting down on fossil fuels.

one thing i would say though is i could do with a dimmer switch. i have tested the different colours they come in i.e. warm white, cool white, daylight with the latter being our favourite but the brightness can be a little harsh, a dimmer would resolve that issue or perhaps a lower wattage bulb would do the trick (currently 6w).

Save yourself the ball ache and go with a lower watt bulb, dimmer switches cause flickering/strobing with LED bulbs. It was more hassle than it was worth trying to find a compatible configuration of fittings, bulbs and switches to stop it that I ended up going back to a standard switch.

They have to be dimmable LED bulbs, could it have been the case you were using non dimmable? Found it difficult to find lower wattage LED online but will try again to see what's out there, 3W daylight would probably do the trick if I can find them.

Yeah they were dimmable, the issue was the switch or at least I thought it was. I was told it wasnt designed for LED bulbs because the operating ranges were rated too high or something. So changed it for one that was, had more or less the same issue but slightly less noticeable. Tried another switch, again more or less the same result but behaved a little better but still enough to annoy me while trying to read at the table. So had the fitting changed, that didn't alter anything. In the end I went back to original bog standard switch with the new fitting and that got rid of it. Only other thing I can think of is wiring / interference but I could not be f**ked wasting another weekend trying to solve a problem that didn't need doing in the first place LOL

Haha Jesus i better speak to the sparky before buying the switches...or better still buy a lower wattage bulb and see how that goes LOL

Have heating on two hours a day. One hour at night and one in the early morn. Rads off in rooms not being used but pretty sure thermostats downstairs are goosed for the underfloor heating. Despite being down all the way in the hall, the downstairs jax floor like a hot stone. Dreading the bills.

Was out of contract with Electric Ireland and went onto the switcher sites. Searched using annual usage data and they only offer that focking came up was EI with a 14.5% discount on both gas and electric. Loada bollox.

Very interesting. Jesus, our heating has been on all day as we didn't leave the house.

Stick it on for a hour in the morning and then maybe in boost for 2 hours later that evening.  All rads at 2-3 and thermostat at 20-21

My mates Mam was too happy when I tried to make my stolen sticker album sound like a bigger deal than her car windows being smashed.
