well i for one will have trouble sleeping with the excitement of that this entails - the chance to travel to see somewhere new , experience different cultures , engage with  the locals , try the local cuisine/drink  , try not to get ripped off trying to do currency exchange in my head

Trying out the local lingo - the possibilites are endless

Prediction 1   - Roger Casement has a better chance of rising from the dead than casement park being built

Prediction 2 - Dublin hotels will be £500 quid a night up from their usual £250

Or they wanted each country besides England to contribute one stadium each. Likely one group based in Ireland and if Casement fails to be built they use Croke Park as back up.

If that's the case we should have pulled out. The only other sovereign state in the bid is either a co host or not. I dont see what good this does Irish football other than distract the powers that be further from their brief (ie domestic growth).

There is nothing in this for us.

Was very surprised by this news today.   I thought it was nailed on we would have 2 host stadiums and now its only one and at that the lesser of the two stadiums.

This Casement Park thing is pie in the sky stuff.  It should have been the two Dublin stadiums only or revamp Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

To be fair I think it’s the size of Dublin compared to London which is why the two stadia / city rule is enforced here. Braga in Portugal held games and there’s only two stands there.

I was only winding up in regard to the 3 sides.

I thought the "only one stadium per city" is a bit weak.
I think it simply came down to its England plus the others all get one stadium each. But then I am not sure why we really tagged our name to the bid if we are just at the same level of Scotland and Wales and the North. I thought the whole thing only made sense if we had 2 stadiums and automatic qualification.

We could end up (and knowing our luck we will) in the unfortunate situation that the Euros is called Euro 2028 UK and Ireland and then we are not in the bloody thing! A bit farcical if that comes to pass.

You make it sound like we actually had some say in what went on. Probably only got asked about joining in as Hill is buddies with the lads in the FA. Probably would have just went with a UK or British bid otherwise.

Probably if Gemma O Doherty or Sports Gemma get on the UEFA board.

Every other country’s leader/FA full of Gemma O’Dohertys at the top so? They were all wrong of course.

It was a disgraceful decision that only was even considered don’t mind carried out in the covid hysterical ground zero of Europe that was Ireland.

It shouldn’t matter of course in this bid but we could have no complaints if UEFA took a dim view of said decision in 2021.

How many other countries were using their stadium as a vaccination centre.  Lansdowne Road was being used as one during that time.

Think I saw that there was a fear Croker was too big and they would struggle to sell it out for group games.

Suppose the analysis is, if its just one stadium per city then you will defo sell it out. If its two stadia per city then you could get a less attractive match like denmark vs. Switzerland and then if that is in croker it might be hard to fill.

Could put in a Dublin North and Dublin South bid which will cover both , seems like two different cities to me  Big smile

Good discussion on this, re: Casement Park in Belfast, on Nolan Show on BBC Radio Ulster at the minute .  GAA only committed to providing £15 million.   Surplus of £125 million+ in terms of who will fund it .    Apparently needs to begin construction by summer 2024 as per uefa rules .

The commitment from UK government to get casement done on time is a blessing now for GAA you would think

It will be ironic if the only infrastructure dividend from
This bid will be a GAA stadium in Belfast 😀
