Ukraine have paid a heavy price. 7 Ukrainian soldiers are dead for every 1 Russian according to the documents that were leaked in the US. It will be interesting to see what comes of this summer offensive but I wouldn't be optimistic for Ukraine.

Did they?

I only remember the bit about estimated 15k Ukraine dead and 43k Russian dead since beginning of conflict. Russia, and Wagner in particular have paid a heavy price for what now looks like nothing.

To be honest its hard to know what figures are accurate. Both sides will be downplay their loses and over exaggerate the losses of their enemies so I wouldn't believe anything reported in the press.

European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen said back in November that 100k Ukrainian soldiers had died so far as well as 20k civilians. She later said that was a mistake but I believe it was more than likely the truth.

Judging by the constant footage of trenches filled with dead Russians and in comparison the Russians rarely releasing anything similar and considering Russia's tactics of throwing wave's of badly trained mobilised into attacks I'd say the ratio is firmly in Ukraine's favour.

F16's, advanced attack helis and ATACMS. Hopefully in the next couple of months both are announced so we can finally get over the escalation scare mongering. They'll have received quality weapons and after that point the most important thing Will be supplying in sufficient quantity.

F16's won't make a huge difference as they'll not flying over Russian held territory but they'll help none the less. ATACMS are the last big game changer IMO. Weaken and destroy Russian ammo and vehicle depots far behind the frontlines.
I made this post in January and my wishes are coming true. They didn't get ATACMS for their HIMARS but instead they got long range missiles from the UK, Storm Shadow. The French rumoured to send their version.

But there's been a lot of F16 chatter this week. Officially training will begin. Unofficially it's looking increasingly likely a coalition of countries will donate F16's at some point in future. 4 months was touted but personally I'm thinking the winter. This will be around the time they'll receive Abram's tanks.

If Ukraine can make some gains this summer they'll be going into winter knowing they'll be even stronger come the following summer. A good boost for Ukraine's long term prospects.

Zelensky acknowledged the loss of Bakhmut (Artemovsk)

The President of Ukraine was asked whether Bakhmut is still in the hands of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. “I think not,” Zelensky replied.

Now there are lots of news reports denying it is occupied. Typical circus in the media.

Plenty of videos of Russians on top of all the high-rise buildings flying Russia and Wagner flags.

It's been full occupied now. Only took them 9 months to take the 56th largest city in Ukraine. Somebody worked out at the rate of attrition they'd need over a billion Russians to die to fully take Ukraine. Crazy stuff.

In other news reports of a Russian separatist battalion fighting in Belgorod after crossing the border from Ukraine.

70 Ukranian fighters were killed in Belgorod in Russia. Western Military equipment left behind or destroyed.

If there's about to be a negotiation what does Putin actually want?

Scary to think this is the 'cleanest' end to the war. The fact that it's been drawn out so long surely has damaged the Russian military on the plus side.

Ukraine to be a neutered vassal state, having surrendered tranches of land back to Russia. Negotiation basically means giving Ukraine nothing other than Russia temporarily shelling its citizens, and in return Russia influencing it geopolitically, and unilaterally redrawing the map, in its favour. Russia of course would be back again under some other bogus pretence before the end of the twenties.

Nato to stop expanding to its border might help.

Absolute bollox. Why do you think the Baltic nations joined NATO? They’d be the exact same as Ukraine now. Russian cannot be trusted. You’re a f**king moron is you believe that crap.

Agree- Was in the Baltic States back in the early 90's for Ireland games, and the relief on these peoples faces to be out of the USSR and Russian oppression was visible to see. One of the fair well presents to Latvia/Lithuania was they dumped acid from the nuclear subs into the bay to poison their sea life. In Poland at game in 1991 in Poznan, the amount of young people we met who couldn't wait to cross into Europe for jobs, education and freedom basically.

Crossing the Frankfurt - Oder Bridge from Germany to Poland and back with border guards searching the roof of the train etc. for refugees  was a wake up call  for me and other Ireland fans at the time, how oppressed these people were. So 100% agree, form personal experience being in the Baltics after the Russians left, no wonder they embraced Nato and the EU.

Example:- We had to queue for fruit and bread in East Berlin before we boarded the train to Poland, and it was exactly the old communist system in place although they had been reunified the year before. Crossing into West Berlin was brilliant after we returned from Poland,  as there was McDonalds, KFC and people wandering the streets, bars clubs etc. unhindered.

There's plenty of us older lads on YBIG were there to see it for our own eyes...
