is Hungary beat Germany and France draw with Portugal the only scenario where England avoid France or Germany?

Yeah if you were to base it on fan forums I wouldn’t support Ireland.

2 of the 4 qualifiers from the NL already out and Hungary to follow tomorrow. Only our own nemesis Slovakia still in the shake up although I see Spain beating them too...

Considering their strikers were transferred in from England (Adams) and Australia (Dykes) it makes you wonder how bad the best Scottish strikers must be. At least they have their 0-0 win against England to look back on. They've just transferred across to the fan zone in Glasgow on the Scottish game coverage on UK TV. Nobody there - they've already gone home. Lightweights.

Still if you were at Scottish fan in the 70 & 80 it would have been great to qualify for 5 world cups in a row. Like us they will never qualify for another 32 team world cup.

I think Dykes would've got into the Australian setup, no? IDK anyone in our squad who declared for us when they would've got within an arse's roar of the England setup.

Probably - Australia are not that good. McTominay would have made the England setup as well I think. He is played out of position a lot for Scotland as they are poor at centre back - would have had more of a chance of playing in his natural position with England ironically. The only non Irish born or raised players who would have played for their native countries had they not chosen us were probably the Scots, definitely McGeady and McCarthy, probably Houghton also if he had wanted to hold out for a call up. Edit - Sheedy from Wales as well of course.

oh aye 100%, it's a great run of qualifications, and obviously the formats have changed a lot over the years. but considering ourselves, NI and Wales have all made it out of group stages of major tournaments on multiple occasions it's a pretty insane stat. Especially when you think of the talent of those Scottish sides in particular. |

Have the Scots ever had a reliable goal scorer upfront? Dennis Law only name springs to mind but that's going back a year or two....

Agree, f**k Scotland. Specialists in failure - 11 tournaments and can't get out of the group I read a lot on here of how sectarian a nation Scotland is, anti-Irish and anti-Catholic and everyone over here seems to be running about pretending to be a jock all summer Just Wales and England to get rid of now |
