Only 2 changes for the Dutch which is a bid odd given they've won the group

1-0 saw both teams through.
Any other score and one of them went at the expense of Algeria.

Germans scored early and then played tiki-taki in their own half for 80 mins.

If you've seen the 1982 Fifa World Cup film, it's a fairly big part of that.

I think it's the same one with Sean Connery throwing out some casual racism about the non-European teams.

The Germans finished in plus 3 GD so a 2-0 win would have made that plus 4.

The Austrians finished on a plus 2 GD so a 2-0 would have them at plus 1 GD.

Algeria finished on a 0 GD.

So 2-0 would have been fine too.

In fact 5-2 or higher would have been fine too but hard fix that 😀

Ah that's what it was. That rings a bell alright. Thumbs Up  I vaguely remember it being mentioned in some documentary years ago. As I said I didn't google it.

I was probably confusing that Austrian win with Cameroon's shock victory over Argentina in 1990.

Easy mistake Muff!

The Austrians and Cameroonians look alike.

Hans Krankl ?

And the 1934 Wunderteam with Mattias Sindalar (murdered by Nazis).
I thought it was suicide.
And his girlfriend ?

Thats what the Nazis said.
