Ideal replacement for De Gea in year or so. He is exactly the type of modern GK that ten Hag needs. He isn't afraid to claim high balls, he will leave his box to sweep up if required, and is good at passing out from the back. He just needs more experience at this level.

Watching a bit of Southampton here. All over the shop. Bazunu has been getting plenty shot stopping practice throughout the season and today no different.
Suspect he goes to a back 5 again in the 2nd half.

Don't think so manager wouldn't want him! They went 5 at the back against Arsenal and they were a different team can't understand we he didn't today. Would half expect him to in the 2nd half.

It wasn't great and he almost cost them a goal early on , Not a whole lot he could have done about the goals - Southampton were awful all over the pitch.

He could learn how to take a step before taking off on dives to his left hand side - might have got a bit closer to three of the four if he did…

4-1 flattered Newcastle. They didn't even play that well. Very clinical. Southampton missed a few good chances. Saints had an xG of 1.78 to Newcastle's 0.83, which says it all. Bazunu's long distance kicking was alright (12 out of 26). His general passing was off. The only goal that I'd be critical of is the Willock goal. It's saveable. It ends up being the perfect little poked finish somehow. No real venom behind it. Hopefully the next manager will try to play a less direct style, as they often try to bypass midfield.

Agree with this and it's been noticeable before, seems to set himself too late at times. Having said that the goals were well placed. The 3rd is the one I'd be most critical of. Was his starting position too deep? In any case, he did little to enhance his world class reputation on here and he was blessed to get away with a very poor clearance at 0-0.

He certainly should be doing better for the 3rd goal....he seems to stand very far off his line which doesn’t help .

Looks like he's gone alright ,Be interesting to see who gets the job and if they stick with Gavin - He is a big money signing considering Southampton's budget and the most they have ever spent on a keeper .

Yeah can't see a new manager bringing McCarthy back in as number one. While Bazunu has had some faults he's only conceded more than one goal in 5 of the 14 games. Who ever the new manager is will want to get the defenders organised because it's often like Moses parting the red sea when the opposition is attacking. |

Southampton will still want to develop young players seems a club priority more than a head coach one. They will want a manager who will work within that. Personally I think they need a coach that has an idea how to create a defensive structure, they have individually talented players in defence but it's just not organised.
