I'd also say Portugal weren't unconvincing in that win, Azeri keeper kept them in that game, any other day Portugal win that very comfortably

normally i always held out hope for a shot at top spot in other years but been realistic we won't be able to touch Portugal. You would imagine they will take 6 points of us. I can't see us taking anything off them even at home. try and beat Serbia at home and slog it out for 2nd hoping other results might go our way. Best we can hope for.

Yep Portugal win hopefully they can put more goals past Serbia then they do ourselves.

Goal difference is the first tiebreaker which it may come down to...though I'm not hopeful we can outscore Serbia against Luxembourg and Azerbaijan if we both take 6 points from them.

From here on in essentially yes we need to be on a par with whatever Serbia do in their matches.

it's mad to think that we could even get a draw against Portugal but it won't make any difference we're still going to have to get a win against Serbia in the Aviva.

Yeah Serbia vs Portugal will be an interesting one. I'm hoping for a good Portugal win which will mean if by some miracle we can get a draw in Dublin against Portugal it would put us on the front foot.

We need a Portugal win, 100%.

We can't expect to take points off Portugal. Serbia could. Last night shows why - Serbia scored 3 and won, Portugal only won 1-0 with an own goal.

A further point, if you wanted to be optimistic, we play Portugal at home in the second last game. If Portugal are already qualified, they might throw a weakened team over. We probably still wouldn't take points off them, but this thread is for hoping. Wink

Serbia were good yesterday. They'll give Portugal a good game pity that match is on at the same time as ours
It would damage this forums' reputation

The Serbs might have a decent chance of finishing ahead of Portugal who unconvincingly beat Azerbaijan tonight. I think it'll be a draw on Saturday which puts another nail in our coffin.

How can you call the group after 1 round????

I dont think Serbia looked good at all yesterday. They are very average. No real difference yesterday apart from Tadic and they took their chances obviously. Id expect Portugal to beat them twice. Hope so anyway.

Portugal are notorious slow starters in qualifying. Serbia actually drew 1-1 away with them in the Euro 2020 qualifying. Unfortunately I do fancy them to get a result on Saturday.

Because one of our two most crucial fixtures against our direct rivals fell within the first round of fixtures.

We needed 4 points minimum of Serbia to have any hope of second place. We lost last night which means we'll probably have another two losses vs Portugal. We're not getting anywhere near a playoff spot with 3 losses in this group.

Best we can hope for is to keep within touching distance of the Serbs whilst relying on an unlikely set of results to put us in second place.

Wings? They're only the band The Beatles could have been.
