I enjoyed the 3 trips to Denmark and am looking forward to the next trip.
I would even qualify that to say I would love to be looking forward to a trip anywhere.

2 trips were fine Copenhagen in Nov was grim

I can think of worse - Aarhus in November.

In reality the teams we get from pots 2/3/4 are probably more important.    Denmark/Ukraine/Finland is a lot worse than say  France/Slovakia or NI and Luxembourg.

We need to get an easy tie at home now to inflate the ranking points

Aarhus was grim. For many reasons discussed in plenty of other threads, so for now I'll just say a boring town and freezing cold. I enjoy travelling to Copenhagen, and the summer game there last year was nice, I'm just sick to the teeth of playing Denmark.

While the city itself was pleasant enough the whole atmosphere around that game in Aarhus was pretty bad.  The football didn't exactly cheer us up either.

Although if we end up in pot 3 then Denmark/Wales/Georgia would not be the worst draw.

Great Confused a win is worth 6.84, a draw 1.84 and a loss -3.16
To put that into perspective, a win against Luxembourg would have given us 3

7th Dec being reported as when the draw will be made  - on a Monday - a bit surprising

I could be wrong, but did FIFA not change their ranking process in mid-2018(?) to one nearer that of UEFA, by discounting Friendly matches?

Certain countries - notably Romania and Wales, possibly also Iceland - had "gamed" the previous FIFA system by avoiding Friendlies altogether, since wins got you sod-all, whereas draws or defeats cost you.

If so, then this England/ROI match shouldn't affect your ranking points.

No, friendlies count under the new system. There was a flaw in the old system where if you played a friendly and used more than three subs, then the points were voided. That is now gone.

The calculation itself to count the difference between the teams and the points awarded for that is too complicated to explain here, but that difference is then multiplied based on the importance of the match in question (5 for friendlies outside the international window, 10 for friendlies in the international window, 15 for NL Group matches, 25 for NL Playoff/Final, Euro and WC qualifiers)
