I disagree, he wouldn’t have made much difference, not even sure I’d have started him in that team

His best days for Ireland were under O’Neill in his mid 30s

It was a little early for me too. I slept in for the Ireland-Cameroon game. Bloody 7am kick-off on a Saturday morning.

You said he never made it to 2002, suggesting loss of form.

Just confirming he was injured, thats all.

We actually didnt feel his loss with Finnan and Kelly

True

PFA team of the year had the following at right back
00 Kelly
01 Carr
02 Finnan
03 Carr

But I feel he could have gotten a move to a bigger club and been a mainstay in the Ireland team for many years.

Yeah when he got that big move to Man U it seemed he would be our best player for years.

Stephen Carr is another. He did play about 40 games for us but never made it to 2002. He was the best right back in the epl for the previous 2 years and the year after....
Knee injuries ruined a big move for him as Man U and others were interested.

Tommy Morrison.....oh they've changed the thread title now Confused

The converse of this is all the late developers we have who aren't rated that high as youngsters but then hit the heights later on. Wes was a classic example of this, nobody mentioned him too much at all under Trapp when he was being omitted. Of our current team all our best players at the moment - Doherty, Egan, Randolph Stevens all made a slow stuttering journey to the top. Hourihane too had to make his way up slowly , Coleman wasn't hyped as a youngster and nobody much was demanding Mcgoldrick be called up when they were all drooling over Hogan not long ago.
That's each of our top Premier league players this season there whose careers have been a bit of a slow burn. Just seems to be the way Irish footballers make it these days, so makes up for the Conor Cliffords out there.

Courtney Duffus
Harry Charsley
Eoghan O Connell
Thomas Hoban

It will be heartbreaking if say in 8-10 years a similar thread is made and we include Troy Parott in it Cry
