I can see a lot of the internationals being switched to neutral venues. The likes of us going to Bulgaria isn’t feasible with our current rules and they won’t be waived for a football match.

Armenia, currently worst performing country in Europe... playing away to Estonia - the best in Europe barring the principalities.. Would make loads of sense! Tick tock for the Euros being scattered around also barring a vaccine

Green list means nothing. The recommendation is no non essential travel. A football match is the definition of that.

no non essential travel is not feasible if the rest of Europe has opened up and the rest of Europe is opening up AFAIK

You might want to learn yourself on that one or define open up. Plenty of places aren’t open any more than us. Some countries in lockdown and all it will take is for us to get back to a hundred cases a day and Ireland won’t be on most other UEFA countries’ greenlists.

Rest of Europe isn't opening up. Spain has imposed new restrictions.

Locally not nationally as clusters pop up which will likely be the case going forward in the medium to long term

Rest of Europe has long been open. This is fearmongering nonsense. We are the very last country to do this green list. Literally the last ffs.

A recommendation of no non essential travel, when the government has already clarified that there is no more chance of getting this virus in the green list countries than Ireland, is symptomatic of the ambiguity which has dogged our Covid approach for the last few weeks.

There's no ambiguity bar what you bring to it.
The advice (and it is advise, to adults, who can still do what they like but should ideally heed the advise) is to not travel.
Simple.
But if you have/want to for whatever reasons, then this list shows the safest places to go.

It's that simple.

Once they made the acknowledgment that these places are as safe as Ireland, and that there is no more chance of contracting Covid there than here, and in some cases less of a chance - Why would the advice be not to travel? That is patently ridiculous.

Seems like a way of putting money back into an economy they have destroyed, by forcing people into these 'staycations'. A hypothesis backed up by the incoming tax breaks which are to be given to people that go to these Irish places!

Yes a tourist from these countries can fly in,  spend as much time as he likes , can go back and forth as many times as he likes and we 'cant' go the other way
