We'd have been better off finishing 3rd in the group. Probably would have played Nigeria in Boston

Where would you rate George Hamilton as a commentator?  I would actually rank him up there with the very best.  Magee was pony though.  Best commentator ever (in English speaking countries obviously) was Brian Moore.  Motson very overrated imo.

Moore No.1 followed by Barry Davies. Under used by the BBC

Penalty surely!?

Magee should've been co-commentator with effin Eddie on some local bogball match that nobody outside the two parishes gave a fook about. He should've been let nowhere near international events.

Last night I watched the 97 Late Late Show tribute for Paul McGrath on youtube and at one point Jimmy started going on about someone else in his neverending anecdotes Sleepy before Gay thankfully moved it back on topic.

Darragh Moloney was much better than Hamilton (for a start he doesn't confuse the identities of black players which George has done on numerous times during the CL coverage) when he was filling in for him but for nostalgic reasons, I loved Hamilton's commentary when we scored and when we conceded goals. It was the perfect description of how everyone was feeling  from pure elation in Ireland scoring and a sickening punch in the stomach when we conceded.
Wings? They're only the band The Beatles could have been.

I know that Magee said in Orlando ''Ireland haven't lost'' after the gameDead

I never realised he said it in 1990 in Rome aswell.  He was a quite deluded was Magee.  He liked to gloss over failed drug tests.

I kind of loved that about USA 94.  The tv quality always was poorer when looking at American tv shows and news reports back then.  Think it had summink to do with NTSC having sh*te resolution compared to PAL in Europe.

Tommy Coyne up front on his own.  How did he ever get  a game for the EIRE?

Didnt ever see much of him but do know from those that did, that he was a very capable player.

Scored for fun in Scotland. Albeit, not too sure what the quality was like in the 90s.
