To his credit, he kept them up last season when they looked even more doomed. Whoever comes in now might give them a similar short term bounce but they are a very young team, most of their best players have been moved on due to the financial pressures the club is operating under and it's going to be a tough job for the next manager.

They were 15th when he took over hardly doomed

And they've only played 14 games this season... hardly a cycle for manager. Plus the stint in Greece wasn't much better albeit they are a horrible club for an manager.

Mccarthy has had a fantastic career as manager and player, he doesn't need to prove anything to anyone. He should.look to take it easy now.

I think his replacement at Apoel has been sacked too.

Was sacked after losing the first game of the season 4-0.

No surprise.  Doesn’t make him a bad manager.  Most managerial posts end with the sack.  They have a shelf life at a club and a point comes when you need a fresh approach.  A losing streak is hard to break when players lose confidence in themselves and in what the gaffer is telling them. Age is a factor though, and I reckon he has maybe one more job in him. Could be L1.

Brendan still there....

I think Brendan is more comfortable being described as an Ulsterman as opposed to Irishman, a bit like
Michael O'Neill.

President McAleese hosted a series of interviews a out 15 years ago where she talked to various high profile people about  their concept of irishness, one of these people was MON...spent a lot of the interview i recall talking about the GAA and how it influenced him..

I thought that was Martin O'Neill?

Does Brendan have any say in the matter? He strikes me as someone who'd identify as British.

Not so. He was a keen hurler.

So was Michael O'Neill.

Last 9 games with Cardiff read very badly.

Lost 8 games. The team scored 3 goals and conceded an incredible 20.

Everyone knows what mccarthys plan 'A' is... defend deep, hit it long, no risks in possession. There isn't really a plan 'B'

Have any of ye ever seen Mick as a pundit?

He is absolutely abysmal!!!!!

I could see a a side struggling to stay up in Championship bring him in to do a salvage gig short term.
