Catching up on the Boys in Green documentary and Cascarino's header against England got me thinking, what's the best header that was scored for us? Given our style of play, I'm sure there's plenty of worthy contenders.

Some which spring to mind are;

Cascarino vs England in '90 (brilliant amount of power generated as he was going backwards)

Aldridge vs Mexico in '94 (Great passing move too)

Long vs England.

Aldridge vs Mexico.

It was Tommy Coyne in the win against the Dutch in ‘94.

Robbie Keane against Cyrpus was a quality goal.

You'd have to give it to Houghton against the Tans.

He wouldn't set me free,
So he kept me soul for ransom.

I would argue that Aldo’s is the best goal we have ever scored, never mind the best header. Brilliant football and Aldo’s movement and finish were unbelievable.

In fairness, we have some serious contenders for this one.

Houghton’s against Belgium in 1997 was absolute quality given the way he adjusted his neck.

McGoldrick v Switzerland was one of the more recent memorable headers

Frank Stapleton scored some great headers for us, none more so than the diving header against Belgium in the 88 qualifiers in the heysel

Robbie scored a great header against the Dutch in 2000 in the 2-2 away draw.

Seemed to be plenty more headed goals back in the 80's. Lawrenson v the Dutch in 1980 was a great header, Stapleton scored many's a headed goal as did McGrath.

I could agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.

Paul McGrath's headed goal v Austria away Euro '96 from Mark Kennedy corner.. a thing of beauty even if we did get stuffed that night.

That's the best one that I remember given that it was a decent move and the header itself was more difficult than a lot of those mentioned.

Corrected Thumbs Up

Would agree with you regarding that goal being one of the best we've scored in terms of the football that was played in the build-up.
