Under 1% for normal flu. Death rate with this is around 2%. For comparison the death rate for SARS was 10% although didn't spread as far

That 2% is misleading, death rate of 10% when compared with the amount of people who have actually recovered from it (good website here):

The flu/influenza is well known and flu jabs are widely available. The fear is around the unknown characteristics of the Coronavirus. |

If things shut down here like in other countries, my business is f**ked. No income for 6 months, hello Mother, hello Father. It's me your son who never visits, how's that broken spring bed?

Yeah they have had something like 95 cases and 16 deaths. A read an interesting opinion on the bbc website about how the viruses spread and that what will often happen is that in places with peaceful societies and good healthcare services viruses cause a lot less damage. One of the reasons is that those who are very ill tend to remain at home. And that those with mild cases will just go on about life meaning the mild strain becomes the strain that passes from person to person. In war ravaged countries or countries experiencing turmoil those experiencing the deadlier strain end up in hospitals or field hospitals whilst those experiencing the mild strain stay were they are. Obviously then healthcare is huge as the more prepared the system is the better the survival rates. China was hit with this very quickly and it is difficult to contain. The rest of the world is aware of the virus and put all protocols and other preventative measures in place hopefully limiting the virus ability. It was a good article, must see if I can find it.

Some oul Italian boy was giving out on a news report that there was no pasta in his local shop. Ridiculous he said, there wasn't as much panic at the start of WW2
