Heard about that but it wasn't in the part of the factory that's producing the c19 vaccine so production of it won't be affected.

Have they said that production won’t be impacted or are you deducing that from the fire didn’t happen in that part of the factory

They've said production isn't impacted and that it was in a different part of the site. Statement from Serum institute was released shortly after

Fair enough.  It will be interesting to see their reason for cutting back the European supply as the uk supply is not impacted.

Let’s hope they back track like Pfizer
Seems there are high level discussions between the EU and AZ people scheduled for early week. Considering the size of markets I have a feeling the reported reduction in supply to the EU won't be as pronounced, an agreement will be reached.

Seems like they can make it quick enough but are obviously looking after their own first.
But the UK are complaining they aren’t getting enough at the moment.

 https://www.statista.com/statistics/1104709/coronavirus-deaths-worldwide-per-million-inhabitants/

Just looking at the % of COVID deaths per population.

Belgium have the worst at 1.8% followed by some of the big names - UK 1.4%, Italy 1.4%, USA 1.2%, Spain 1.2%, France and Sweden at 1%

Ireland 0.5%, German 0.6% numbers look good in comparison.

China still only reporting 4500 deaths so it doesn’t even register as a % of their population.

They've got their own vaccine but it's like something which has been shipped from Aliexpress.

Supposedly only about 52% effective, but for the poorer Nations it's the only vaccine they can afford which isn't great.

Actually our death rate is 0.057% of population....570 per million

What is mental is that Sweden went for the maverick approach and is still better than the UK by many metrics. It is absolutely unbelievable how badly managed it has been here. It could only have been worse if dogging was made mandatory.

More and more im coming around to the belief that a Zero Covid strategy is the only option open to us. The government are will eventually come around, albeit kicking and screaming.

The ship has sailed on that approach.
Being an Island it could have been done as long as NI agreed to follow the New Zealand approach.

Now with the vaccines ongoing it make sense to wait for the roll out and continue with the current lockdown measures.

The schools and some restrictions can be lifted after Easter.
Hopefully pubs / restaurants can be open for the summer.
By sept everything should be back to the ‘new normal’...

Disagree, the vacinne rollout should be a part (a large part) of the wider strategy to eliminate Covid in the community. Martin on the radio yesterday saying restrictions could start to be lifted when we get to '100-200' cases a day!

That's extremely dangerous. Why not hold of another few weeks until we supres it right down to less than 10 cases a day?

But by the time we get down to 100-200 you're talking late Feb anyway, at that stage we'll have the most vulnerable vaccinated, you have to start opening up at that stage. Would be hoping we're done with 5k and schools closed by Paddys day, even if there is still 100-200
